Daycare shouldn’t be the place kids go to get sick.
But it becomes that when illness is treated like an inconvenience instead of a signal.
When a child is sent in tired, coughing, flushed, or clearly not themselves, the virus doesn’t stay with them. It moves through shared toys, little hands, and crowded rooms until it reaches every family connected to that space.
And then it repeats.
Parents miss work.
Kids miss school.
Teachers burn out.
Some children get far sicker than they ever should.
No one wins.
I know staying home isn’t easy. Not everyone has flexibility, backup care, or understanding employers. But sending a sick child out doesn’t solve the problem, it multiplies it.
Right now, the flu is heavy.
The viruses are aggressive.
And pretending otherwise is costing everyone.
Keeping sick kids home isn’t about judgment.
It’s about responsibility.
Because slowing the spread starts at the front door.
