Last week during “All in for Ag Ed Week” a group of our members developed and delivered a variety of lessons, readings, and games each day to encourage young generations to know and learn about agriculture. Our theme for this week was “Harvest Day”.
⭐️Monday we visited our middle schoolers with a lesson about how the seed makes it to the table. We went through five stations: Plant It, Harvest It, Know It, Work It, and Eat It. These five stations helped our 7th and 8th graders better understand how a seed becomes a meal.
⭐️Tuesday, members visited Dixon Elementary School to read a book about how Fall relates to agriculture. They created their own mosaics which consisted of pumpkins, leaves, and other fall items.
⭐️Wednesday, members visited Providence Elementary School and put together their own lessons on a variety of topics they are passionate about in agriculture.
⭐️Thursday, members visited Clay and Sebree Elementary Schools and read to them. They read about the many careers found within the agriculture industry. This allowed for our elementary students to think about what they want to be when they grow up and why these jobs are important.
⭐️To end things, on Friday, we hosted an Ag Olympics in all of our high school agriculture classes which connected our members on many different levels. We played games such as pig in a haystack, Ag bingo, and haystack/throw.
⭐️As a bonus, students were given their own paper cut out of the Agriculture Commissioner, Mr. Jonathan Shell. They colored how they think he would dress and were challenged to take photos with him in a variety of locations across the community.
All in all, it was an amazing “All in for Ag Ed Week” and we can’t wait for the next celebration! Thank you to our elementary schools and middle school for allowing our members to participate in such a great week promoting agriculture across the county!
