Students at Hills East celebrated World Language Day with a variety of activities in the East Gym, exploring Chinese, Italian, Spanish, ASL and French. Students played Lotería, built burritos, decorated the gym with artwork, lip synced songs in different languages, tested their chopstick skills, played Italian cards, bocce and traditional Chinese games, and practiced Chinese calligraphy using traditional brushes.

Congratulations to the Top 20 students in the Class of 2026 at Hills East! Leading the class are valedictorian AnnaBelle Deaner and salutatorian Maryem Akyol.

Rounding out the Top 20 are Callie Bornstein, Isaac Campbell, Samantha Heyman, Ishan Deen Khwaja, Kaylee Kuhr, Jaeda Lau, Ryan Manoff, Carla Nimeh, Cassieobi Ojukwu, Sahil Patel, Blake Rabinowitz, Ayan Raza, Emma Rosslee, Luciano Stallone, Kayla Strauss, Adrianna Stucchio, Samaya Syali and Emma Wilck.

Today we feature senior Nathan Anreder! Nathan is actively involved across academics, service, and leadership at HSE. He is a member of the Science, Math, National, and French Honor Societies; serves as President of French Honor Society; and is Co-President of Future Doctors of America, as well as Secretary of Leukemia Together.
Beyond school, Nathan is a junior firefighter with the Melville Fire Department and has spent the past two summers working at Sunrise Day Camp, supporting children affected by cancer. Most recently, Nathan and his classmates earned first place in the New York State We the People competition and will represent New York at the national competition in Washington, D.C. this April.

Hills East Wrestling delivered a strong performance at the Suffolk County Championships, finishing in the top 10 as a team with three All-County honorees. Santino Pascarella claimed the county title at 103 pounds and Nicholas Sevilla earned Runner-Up at 175, with both advancing to the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships, while Logan Pascarella placed 6th at 118. At states, Santino battled back to secure a 3rd place finish and Nicholas capped off an outstanding career that includes multiple All-League and All-County honors and a county finalist title. Congratulations to Santino, Nicholas, Logan and the entire team on an exceptional season.

HSE art students were selected to exhibit their work at Suffolk County Community College's Sagtikos Gallery. Mr. Petrucci's Design and Illustration students, Lila Mishkin and Gabriela Wegert, and Mrs. Norris' AP Art students Cassandra Beltran, Anna Hu and Jocelyn Rhee participated in this annual high school student exhibition that included work from students all over Long Island. Mrs. Scully’s Experience in Law class recently brought the courtroom to life with a student-led mock trial centered on an arson case. Students took full ownership as attorneys, witnesses, and jurors, building their cases through detailed testimonies, strategic questioning, and compelling opening and closing statements, while Mr. Berger presided as judge. Beyond legal procedures, they strengthened their critical thinking, public speaking, collaboration, and ability to think on their feet.

Serwa serves as Senior Class President in Student Government, President of Rising Stars, a student leader in A Ca****la, Vice President of French Honor Society and Black Student Alliance, Treasurer of English Honor Society, and an active member of the Cross Campus Chamber Choir.
