I've mentioned that I'm an NRA API and been asked "what exactly does that mean?"

Advanced Pistol Instructor (API):
The NRA created this elite certification to identify those instructors who are extremely experienced, highly trained, and have demonstrated a commitment to both personal development and the training of others.
Unlike all other firearm instructor certifications which only require participation in a short class, API’s are appointed by an NRA review board. There are about 110,000 NRA certified instructors, fewer than 300 of them have been certified as Advanced Pistol Instructors, that’s about one quarter of one percent of all instructors.
API’s are the only instructors approved to teach the NRA Defensive Pistol class. This module takes the student to that next level in shooting skills specifically the tactics and gun handling development that anyone serious about concealed carry or competitive shooting need to succeed.

If you carry, you should be carrying to protect your loved ones and yourself.

In the event it becomes necessary to take action, it is imperative that you
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

Why should I take a fi****ms course?

1) It will teach you about, the subject, yourself and whether it is right for you.
2) You will understand more about an important topic regardless of where you stand on the issues.
3) When you recognize a friend is a handgun owner you will know how to conduct yourself.
4) If a friend is a handgun owner you will know what is appropriate behavior for them and what is not.

Taking a course is not a commitment to owning a gun. It is a commitment to understanding a serious component of our society.

We are scheduling three courses over the next few weeks.
1) October 28th – Basic Pistol: 3 Hours Classroom – 1 Hour Live Fire -This course is one we have given in the past. No Test. No Qualification This is strictly to get you acquainted with the basics of handgun safety. $125
2) November 4th – Basic Pistol (NRA): 5 Hours Classroom – 1 Hour Live Fire - This course is new. There is a written test and a live fire qualification. Satisfactory scores earn an NRA Certificate. This is recognized by many states (not needed in PA) as a prerequisite to attaining a permit to carry a concealed pistol. $150
3) November 11th – SIRT LASR (NRA): 5 Hours - This course (also new) contains no live fire component. It is administered with laser pistols and software to create a virtual firing range. This environment is ideal to learn and practice the essentials needed to safely carry a concealed pistol. Many of the lessons would not be permitted on a live fire public range. Using laser pistols allows you understand the basics of CCW and practice them safely. Much of what you will learn can be continued at home using dry fire techniques we will show you. You will also receive an NRA certificate. $150
