Young Chef Series is coming for 4-H members in 1st - 5th grade this year. We will be offering sessions monthly! Watch for dates for each month!

Calling all youth gardeners! Can’t wait to see your entries in the Harvest days Fair!!

Castro County Harvest Days are fast approaching on September 12! Fair entries are always fun. We are highlighting all you can enter! NEW this year: Junior Gardener Showcase... so don't pick that zucchini or weird vegetable growing in your garden! Keep it growing and turn it in Friday, September 11, noon-5:30 p.m. at Dimmitt City Hall!!

DIY Microwave Popcorn Bag!!! We had 9 youth and 1 high schoolvolunteer learning to sew and make a bag.
**The learned to sew seams together
**how to top stitch
**how to box pleat a bottom of a bag to make it stand up

We then put popcorn kernels in bag and used the microwave to make popcorn!!

We had 4 seasoning mixes besides salt and butter. The were. Dorito, Cinnamon Sugar, Mexican chocolate, and Ranch! We made several batches of popcorn and tried all the flavors!!! They were a hit!!

Preserving the Harvest Pressure canning workshop tonight! We learned about why and importance of preserving low acid foods by pressure canning. We then did a hands on portion and pressure canned carrots. We had a great group of 5 adults and one youth learning this new skill!
Everyone took a pint of carrots home to enjoy and a booklet of handouts with recipes and ideas!

What a great photography workshop this morning! We had 11 youth learning from Cailee Boyer of Pineapple Passion photography! They learned about aperture, ISO, Rule of thirds, shutter speeds, varying angles and practice practices and practice by exploring around our office and Castro County Courthouse! It was a hot fun morning and some great pictures were captured!

Watch for an August photo challenge to get us in the mood for Fair Photography entries!!
