The snow is starting to melt so we’re entering the mud pit phase 😂. Everybody’s been staying warm and I’m trying to keep pens dry. Leroy and I have been working on feet, Jack and I have been working on sending and getting a little softer on the lead rope, Wiley’s breeder is taking him back after his vet visit’s results so we’re getting a ride ready for him. QT goes home this week, and we’ve been working on saddling still. She’s still just not consistent and her owners and I think something health-wise is still going on. I’m hoping they can get her home and get her feeling better. She’s such a sweet girl and I’ll miss her! Ranger is taking a little break - I noticed his eye a little swollen and pretty blue looking and got him seen Monday. He has uveitis and a tiny ulcer in his eye so we’re getting him lots of meds and taking it easy and he’ll get rechecked tomorrow. Hoping he starts feeling better soon too!! 🤍

Little Leroy got his first saddling! He did a weird little kick out at me a couple times, but never bucked or threw a real fit. He’s super chill standing to be saddled and had zero problem getting cinched up too. We’re working on feet still and getting consistency with round penning and sending for direction changes and transitions. He’s also definitely starting to fill out a little better and put some weight on. He’s definitely getting more energy too! He rolled for the first time in turn out yesterday and had a great time running around a little bit 🫶

Jack is also coming along! He’s learning how to send and follow that lead rope softly. I have put some rides on him and even if he gets really soft by the end of the ride, the next one starts off with me having to be much heavier with my hands than I want to be. On the ground and sometimes in the saddle he tends to use backing up and just going straight to fences as escape routes, so we used the arena fence to help him change direction instead of just pulling away from me. We’re taking a couple steps backward and really connecting to his brain and his feet and he’s definitely starting to piece it all together!

Ranger is coming along! I have been doing lots of round penning and ground work and I’ve put a couple rides on him! I thought my saddle fit him well, but we’re working in a different saddle now and he seems more comfortable and less flighty. He handled pretty well under saddle, just felt like he needed more work to get off my leg and seat better. I’ve found a couple holes in his ground work and we’ve been fixing those up. He’s MUCH better to lead around and not near as pushy as he was when we first started. He’s also much better to catch!

She just finished 60 days of training. Would make a nice little project. She’s a little watchy, but the more I handled her the less of that I saw. She likes work and has enjoyed having something to do. She’s never needed much pressure and she definitely seeks to please.

On the ground, she’s great with:
Feet and trims
Leading
Tying
Saddling
The hose
The flag
Blanketing
Bridling
Loading and unloading from the trailer - she also backs out really nicely
Sending - transitions, stops, direction changes, all 3 gaits
Forehand turns
Hindquarter disengagements
Round penning - transitions, stops, direction changes, all 3 gaits

She does well with mares and geldings, has been on pasture and stalled and does fine either way. She’s been around kids, dogs, mules, much bigger horses and mini ponies.

She needs a confident, cool and collected person and just needs more time. If she sits, she can be a little harder to catch, but if you walk out with a treat or two she’ll come up to you and you’ll catch her just fine.

She has been ridden once, no buck or rear at all. Little spooky with first getting on and getting off, but walked and trotted out just fine, bends really nicely, got off my leg well. She’s sure footed, well balanced, and moves out really nicely. She’s ready to go in whatever direction you want to take her! I am also willing to take her back into my training program for whoever buys her.

Ranger and I are slowly chipping away! He’s been pretty aggressive with all of the other horses, but does NOT want to be left alone 😂. So we’re slowly working on him standing tied without digging to China and rearing, and slowly getting him more time away from everybody. Some days he leads and handles like a champ and other days not so much so we’re working on consistency with all of his ground manners. He’s starting to get much better about saddling though and round penned pretty well yesterday. Hoping he settles down enough to get some rides on him pretty soon and start working under saddle too!!

Leroy had a big day! He got over the scary mats, we started working on standing tied, he met the round pen and we got him moving out a little more. We also worked on bumping up to the rail and getting pet with my foot/leg and having my leg touch both sides of him. He’s so fun to work with. We definitely have more desensitizing to do, but so far nothing seems to phase him too much!
