Fire Prevention Week: Simple Steps to Charge Devices Safely: Fire Prevention Week runs from Oct. 4-10. This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on preventing fires involving lithium-ion batteries.

These batteries power phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters and many other devices. They can overheat or catch fire if damaged or charged improperly.

A few simple habits can help keep your home safe:
- Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer.
- Charge devices on a hard, flat surface, such as a table or desk. Keep them off beds and couches.
- Charge devices while you are awake and nearby. Unplug them when fully charged.
- Charge larger items, such as e-bikes, scooters and power tools, outside when possible. Never block an exit while charging.
- Stop using a battery or device if it becomes very hot, swells or develops an unusual smell. If it starts smoking or catches fire, get outside and call 911.

Dighton Fire Department Shares Severe Weather Safety Tips Ahead of Weekend Storm: With a storm expected to bring rain and strong winds to Massachusetts this weekend, the Dighton Fire Department would like to remind residents to take steps now to prepare and stay safe.

Before the storm, residents should take precautions to ensure their homes and families are prepared for the weather. Create or review your family emergency plan, particularly if you live in an area prone to flooding, and make sure your emergency kit is stocked. Be prepared in the event you lose electricity for multiple days.

Emergency kits should include flashlights, extra batteries, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, first-aid supplies, necessary medications, important documents, water and other essential items.

Residents should also charge cellphones and other electronic devices before the storm and secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations and other objects that could be blown around by strong winds.

Before and during the storm, monitor local weather forecasts and emergency alerts, as conditions can change quickly.

During periods of severe weather, avoid unnecessary travel and never drive through flooded roadways. Stay away from downed trees, power lines and utility wires, and always assume a downed wire is live.

If local officials issue an evacuation order, leave immediately and follow all instructions from public safety officials. Bring only essential items, documents and pets, if possible.

⚠️ FDA RECALL: Certain CPAP/APAP Machines
The FDA has issued a Class I recall — the most serious type of recall — for certain BMC Medical Luna G3 APAP machines.
🫁 Affected device: Luna G3 APAP
Model: LG3600
Affected firmware: G3-2.00.76
The firmware defect may cause the machine to display an “Error” message and automatically shut down during sleep, resulting in interruption of prescribed sleep-apnea therapy.
What should users do?
➡️ Check the serial number on the back of the machine using the manufacturer's recall lookup.
➡️ Contact your healthcare provider or DME provider if you have questions.
➡️ If your device has the affected G3-2.00.76 firmware, FDA advises discontinuing use immediately until a replacement is provided.

2026 Pan-Mass Challenge: Chief Christopher Maguy and the Dighton Fire Department want to remind residents of the 2026 Pan-Mass Challenge coming through Dighton as it does annually. ​
The Pan Mass Challenge will be coming through Dighton on Saturday August 1st, 2026. The approximate times for both days will be starting at approximately 8AM until approximately 2PM.
Saturday August 1st, 2025, Route:
Enters Dighton from Rehoboth on Regional Road to Dighton/Rehoboth High School where riders can take a lunch break. They continue from there on Regional Road, left onto Horton Street, right onto Williams Street, left onto Center Street cross Route 138 and over the Berkley/Dighton Bridge into Berkley.
*Please try to avoid these areas and streets during the above-mentioned times. If you find yourself in these areas, please be patient and use extreme caution due to the large number of cyclists that will be traveling through town.

Residents Reminded to Celebrate the Fourth Safely; Fireworks Are Illegal Statewide: As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, we would like to remind residents to celebrate safely and note that the recreational use of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts.

While the Fourth of July is meant for celebration, residents should celebrate safely. If you are attending a party, remember to drink responsibly and never operate a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If swimming, ensure that no child swims alone, and be mindful of changes in open-water conditions, such as currents or cold water temperatures. When boating, always wear a life jacket.

Additionally, fireworks should be left to the professionals.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, there have been more than 550 fires and explosions involving illegal fireworks in Massachusetts in the past five years. Six firefighters were injured in these incidents, and damages were estimated at nearly $1 million.

The possession, use and sale of fireworks without a professional license is against the law in Massachusetts and punishable by confiscation, fine or imprisonment. Fines range from $100 to $1,000, and some violations could carry a one-year prison sentence.
