As we celebrate this year’s district theme, “Open Doors: See It, Celebrate It, Share It,” we’re reminded of the lasting impact educators can have on a student’s journey far beyond the classroom. We’re proud to feature Rachel Scott, Diamond Bar High School Alum and Senior Political Correspondent for ABC News, as she shares how her time in WVUSD helped shape her path. WVUSD is proud of all she has accomplished and the story she continues to tell. 💫

Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing more videos featuring WVUSD alumni and the incredible paths they’ve taken since their time at WVUSD.

Today, students at Ron Hockwalt Academies participated in a “Day of Hope,” that included a day of lessons, activities, and connection designed to inspire students to recognize possibilities and “Open Doors” to new opportunities.

Organized by RHA teacher, Marla Rickard and her leadership class, the day encouraged students to recognize their “door openers,” and reflect on the people who help guide their journey. A highlight of the event was the guest staff panel, also known as “The Gatekeepers,” who each shared their stories and emphasized that they will continue to be there for students long after their time at RHA, offering encouragement and support. 💙🚪✨

We’re proud to announce that Quail Summit Elementary has been named a Bright Spots Top School! 🌟📚

This national recognition celebrates schools that are beating the odds in literacy education, with a special focus on schools where third-grade literacy scores are outpacing expectations. The Bright Spots Project shines a light on schools where students are thriving and celebrates the educators and communities helping make those successes possible. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this achievement with our community! 🎉

Today, WVUSD hosted the second SUMMIT: Student Athlete Leadership Academy, bringing together more than 80 student-athletes from Diamond Bar and Walnut High Schools for a day focused on leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.

SUMMIT stands for Students United in Mentorship, Motivation, Integrity & Teamwork. Directors Dr. Matt Brummett, Dr. Amy Smith, and Dr. Robby Jung, along with Athletic Directors Valerie Varela and Kurt Davies, and ASCIP Student Safety Advocate Heidi Cisneros led interactive activities, group discussions, and reflections, focused on what it means to lead both on and off the field and how their daily actions can inspire others.

With insights from Deputy Superintendent Dr. Matt Torres and guest speaker Retired Assistant Superintendent Dr. Dan Bryan, student athletes were reminded that leadership isn’t about a title, it’s about how you show up and influence those around you. The day also included a tour of the Mt. SAC Athletic Facility, giving students the opportunity to connect leadership lessons with their own athletic goals and experiences. 💪

Diamond Bar High School kicked off the new school year with its annual Rodeo Round-Up! 🤠 From inflatable games and sweet treats to student performances by performing arts groups, Brahmas enjoyed various fun activities throughout the event. Students also had the chance to hear from athletics teams and capture memories at the photobooth. It was a great way to celebrate the first week back on campus! 💜💛

At our August 5 Welcome Back event, WVUSD staff and leaders gathered to celebrate the start of a new year and discover our 2026-2027 District theme: Open Doors: See It. Celebrate It. Share It. 🌟

Through heartfelt stories from students, staff, and alumni, we heard about the people who opened doors for them and helped shape their journeys. The message was simple but powerful: we all have the ability to open a door for someone else.

We are excited to recognize the great work happening throughout our district, celebrate the people making it possible, and share those stories with our community. 💙
