❓💛 THE WHY… Why do we ask open-ended questions? Because questions without one “right” answer make children THINK. Instead of only asking, “What color is this?” we can ask, “What do you notice?” “What do you think will happen?” “Why do you think that?” or “What could we try next?” These questions encourage children to explain, wonder, problem-solve, and use more language. That’s the WHY behind the questions you hear us asking at DCDC.

🪨💛 Today in our Caring Cubs classroom, we talked about friendship and what it means to be a good friend! Our students had so much fun painting their very own friendship rocks to add to our playground. 🎨🌈

Each friend got to be creative and choose their own colors and designs. We talked about being kind, sharing, helping our friends, and using gentle hands. The kids were so excited to see their special rocks become part of our playground! 🥰🪨💕

🪨💕 Our friendship rocks were finally dry and ready to go outside! The Caring Cubs went outside together as a class to proudly display our special friendship rocks on the playground. 🎨🌈 The kids were so excited to see their artwork become part of our classroom’s outdoor space! Leaves changing colors, different textures, cooler weather, acorns, plants, and other seasonal changes can all become learning opportunities. When children observe, compare, describe, and discover, they’re building science, language, and thinking skills through play and exploration. 🔎💛

Today our Jellyfish and Sharks had a spooky good time this afternoon, baking Halloween cookies. Students followed directions and used their very unique styles to decorate the cookies in their own way. What a delicious treat after a fun filled afternoon!
