We are honored to have Dr. Marlene Belfort join us for the 24th Annual C.P. Lee Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day. Help us welcome Dr. Belfort with a full house for her keynote address, titled "Inteins: Intervening Sequences with Purpose", starting at 12:00 pm tomorrow, November 19th, 2020!

Dr. Belfort is a distinguished professor in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Biomedical Sciences at the State University of New York at Albany. Research projects from Dr. Belfort's lab relate to splicing, mobility, and evolution of self-splicing introns and inteins and their application to biotechnology and medicine.

In 2002, the American Society for Microbiology recognized Dr. Belfort with the Alice Evans Award for her contributions to fostering the advance of women in science. She is actively involved in NIH-funded laboratory research, grant selection, and several professional societies including the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Academy of Microbiology.

The 2020 GSRPD committee consists of students from MS, PhD, and MD/PhD programs within the School of Medicine representing 5 different departments.
