Empowering Futures Through Education. Founded in 1844, the St. However, in 2006, the Center closed its residential campus due to elimination of funding.

Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center most recently served Southeastern Michigan as a residential / foster care agency for children. It was determined that rather than close the doors of the organization, to return to its roots โ€“ providing assistance to the residents of the community through educational programs. At the end of 2006, St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center moved to Detroit and continues its services of helping both children and adults through education.

We are excited to welcome Christine Moylan Skynar as the newest member of the Board of Trustees at St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center!

Christine brings both professional leadership and a lifelong connection to SVSF Center to this role. Through her work with Freudenberg , a longtime supporter of SVSF Center, she has continued to champion opportunities for Detroit students and families. Her connection to our mission began years ago, when her family volunteered with SVSF during her childhood, making this new chapter especially meaningful.

We are grateful for Christineโ€™s commitment to service and excited for the impact her leadership will bring to our community. Welcome, Christine! ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽ“โœจ A New Beginning. A Powerful Legacy. โœจ๐ŸŽ“

Please join us in celebrating Shyanna Marshall, the very first recipient of the Chandler Scholar Award at St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center.

Created in honor of Omair โ€œOโ€ Chandler, this award recognizes students who embody perseverance, resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to building a brighter future through education.

Shyanna's journey is a testament to the transformative power of education. Through challenges and obstacles that could have derailed her goals, she remained focused on creating a better future for herself and her family. Her achievement reminds us why we do this work every day.

Surrounded by members of Omair's family and supporters who helped bring this vision to life, Shyanna's award represents more than academic successโ€”it represents hope, opportunity, and the belief that education can change generations.

A special thank you to Karen Hague for helping preserve Omair's legacy through this meaningful tribute and for inspiring others to invest in the potential of students pursuing their dreams.

At SVSF Center, we're proud to walk alongside students like Shyanna as they pursue brighter futures.

๐Ÿ’™ Because education changes lives.
๐Ÿ’™ Because opportunity changes generations.
๐Ÿ’™ Because every student deserves a chance to succeed.

๐Ÿšจ BREAKING NEWS ๐Ÿšจ
Last Saturday, May 16th, 40 adult learners crossed the finish line and graduated after earning their GEDs through St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Centerโ€™s Adult Education Program, our largest graduating class since 2013.
Behind every diploma was perseverance, sacrifice, courage, and determination. Many of these graduates balanced jobs, children, transportation barriers, financial hardship, and lifeโ€™s challenges while still choosing to show up for themselves and their future. And nowโ€ฆ they are graduates.

At SVSF Center, this is our mission:
๐Ÿ’™ Breaking down barriers
๐Ÿ’™ Bridging the gap between education and opportunity
๐Ÿ’™ Changing generations through education

For some graduates, this is the beginning of college.
For others, itโ€™s the start of workforce training, career advancement, and new opportunities.

To anyone wondering if itโ€™s too late:
โœจ This could be you.
To those looking to make a difference:
โœจ You could be the reason someone crosses the finish line.
To our supporters and donors:
โœจ Your support makes moments like this possible.

Congratulations to the incredible Class of 2026. We are so proud of you. ๐ŸŽ‰

๐ŸŒž Throwback Thursday at SVSF!

This special photo from the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center archives captures children enjoying a sunny day outdoors with Sr. Frances McSherry watching over the fun and laughter. About 60 years later, the joy of learning, play, and community continues to be at the heart of everything we do at St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center.

As we head into a beautiful weekend, we hope you take some time to enjoy the sunshine, make memories with loved ones, and celebrate the spirit of community that has connected generations of SVSF families. Happy Throwback Thursday and have a wonderful long weekend! ๐Ÿ’™
