Here is a read aloud of the book "Waiting for the Biblioburro" by Monica Brown, with illustrations by John Parra.

This book sends a message about the power of reading to awaken imagination and its setting and characters make it a perfect fit for Hispanic Heritage Month. It is based on a true story of a traveling library in Columbia. It focuses on a young girl waiting for the sound of two burros who bring books to remote villages.

🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️We are so excited to announce the start next week of our 2nd Grade running club!! Every 2nd grade class will meet with Mrs. Berman once a week to build endurance and work on both personal and class goals. They keep track of their miles and each week the second grade class that runs the most collectively will get the GOLDEN SNEAKER to keep in their room for the week! Running club lasts all year with some students competing in a 5K in the Spring! The kids love this and it brings on healthy habits we hope they keep 💕💪🏻 Each class came up with a team name and poster to hang up in the gym! We can’t wait to see what our 2nd graders can achieve this year!

Ms. Teeples kindergarten class was learning about Mexican Independence Day and read the book ‘Alma and How She Got Her Name’ by Hispanic author Juana Martinez-Neal. They are going to go home and ask their families where their own name came from 😊. Throughout our classrooms over the next month, students will be learning about Hispanic Heritage Month in a variety of ways. Si se puede!
