Enjoy the beauty of our underwater world! Certification is complete when you pass your open water exam (exam fees are NOT included). Minimum age to enroll is 12. Your fee includes the use of all necessary SCUBA equipment.

Defensive Driving for 55+

Cars have changed and so have the traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads you travel every day. Some drivers, age 55-plus, have never looked back since they got their first driver’s license, but even the most experienced benefit from brushing up on their driving skills. You can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. You’ll learn adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. This course meets the requirements for a discount from your insurance company.

COURSE REQUIREMENT UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, the 8-hour initial course for the 55 + Alive program in Minnesota has been reduced to a 4-hour course. The eight-hour course is no longer required for first-time participants.

The class is held at the Laker Transition Building (1104 West River Road). Please enter the main doors located on the south side of the building.

(Now offered as an all-inclusive in-person training)

This in-person training will cover both the on-line portion of the B.E.S.T. training and the hands-on portion at one session. Minnesota law requires all child care providers and foster care providers that are licensed by the Department of Human Services attend and complete this training before transporting children under the age of nine. Upon completion of the training, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for the on-line portion and an In-person Evaluation form. Certification is valid for 5 years.

Babysitting Training BLAST!

For many pre-teens and teens planning on picking up jobs during the summer months, babysitting is one way to earn some extra cash. The American Heart Association offers this course to help individuals, 11 years of age and older, prepare for the responsibility of babysitting. Learn how to care for infants through school age children and perform tasks such as diapering, preparing simple meals, and dressing. In addition, the course offers ideas for toys and games to play with the children. With safety as the utmost important factor, learn how to handle emergencies and focus on safe care of infants and children. Handouts provided. Please bring a bag lunch.
