The work of John Dewey in Experience and Education 1938 : Philosophy on the role of continuity and experience...
Attitudes are developed which are causal for aversion and preference. People in turn seek the kinds of situations which enable them. Some may be rendered comparatively incompetent in situations which require effort, perseverance or overcoming obstacles. The paradox is that continuity in experience can leave a person on a low plane of development, in a way which limits later capacity for growth.
Apply Dewey's principle of experience to the educational positions and questions about student demonstration of grit, motivation and perseverance to solve problems. Is schooling, in its traditional form creating conditions of facility for continuous growth or engaging students in miseducation?
