Congratulations to one of our 1st grade teacher Ms. Hamilton! We are honored to have her with us at Cockrell Hill Elementary.

Kinder, first and second grade scholars were recently celebrated at their campuses for meeting growth targets by two or more grade levels in reading according to iReady data.

Teachers of those scholars were recognized at tonight’s board meeting for having the highest percentage of students to achieve those growth measures.

For the past 3 year we have been doing a reading challenge for Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th.

Each year, each grade level/team creates trees, "Blooming From Our Roots". Each grade level gets together as a team and reads books/stories from Hispanic authors or Hispanic Stories, it provides a window into diverse experience, cultures, and perspectives that are often unrepresented in mainstream literature, allowing readers to gain a deeper understanding of Latino identities, histories, and struggles, fostering empathy and promoting cultural awareness.

As the grade level reads these books they post a picture of the covers on the their trees. As the weeks go their tree "BLOOMS".

Hence our title Hispanic Heritage Marathon; Blooming From Our Roots.

The grade level that reads the most books gets a prize. Last year they received popcorn and juice. THIS YEAR they will receive an ice-cream party AND a bounce house party. We are so excited to provide this experience to our students and while promoting cultural awareness we are also encouraging our students to want to read more.

See the attached photos of our trees before they BLOOM! We cant wait to provide after photos at the end of the marathon.
