September STAR Students of the Month

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the newsletter to see the scholars selected by their teachers as our September STAR Students of the Month! September’s Character Counts trait is Responsibility. These scholars were selected because they demonstrate responsibility by coming to school prepared, completing their work, following directions, caring for school materials, making good choices, and taking ownership of their actions. Congratulations to our September STAR Students!

We are proud of you for allowing your responsibility to shine throughout WRE!

Dear WRE Parents and Scholars,

WRE Parent Newsletter: https://app.smore.com/n/ewqxz2

Welcome to Week 4 at Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy! As we prepare for another great week of teaching and learning, I want to thank our families for your continued support, partnership, and commitment to our scholars.

Thank You, WRE Families!

A huge thank you to all of our parents and families who joined us for our first Parent Luncheon of the school year! We loved seeing you on campus and watching our scholars enjoy this special time with their families. Your presence and involvement make a difference, and we appreciate you being part of our WRE community.

Character Counts Week & Uniform Dress Code

Thank you to all of our scholars who participated in Character Counts Week! We enjoyed seeing everyone show their school spirit while learning about the importance of demonstrating strong character each day.

Beginning Monday, August 31st, all scholars will return to the DeSoto ISD Uniform Dress Code. Parents, please help us by ensuring your scholar arrives at school each day dressed appropriately and ready to learn.

Beginning-of-Year Assessments Continue

We are continuing i-Ready Inform make-up testing for scholars in grades 1–5 who were absent during last week's testing. Our kindergarten scholars will also continue completing their CLI Beginning-of-Year assessments.

Please continue helping your scholar be successful by making sure they arrive at school on time, get plenty of rest, and are ready to show what they know.

WRE Parent Oath Agreement

As part of our continued commitment to maintaining high expectations and a strong partnership between home and school, ALL WRE parents/guardians are required to complete the 2026–2027 WRE Parent Oath of Agreement.

The Parent Oath outlines our shared expectations regarding academics, attendance and tardiness, behavior, after-school clubs, tutoring, PTA membership, communication, and family partnership.

✅ Completion of the WRE Parent Oath of Agreement is mandatory for ALL WRE families.

Please take a few minutes to review and complete the agreement as soon as possible.

i-Ready Inform Parent Reports Coming Home

Parents of scholars in grades 1–5, Beginning-of-Year i-Ready Inform parent letters and your scholar's assessment scores will be sent home in your child's backpack on Thursday, September 3rd.

Please check your scholar's backpack for this important information. Parents are welcome to contact their scholar's teacher to schedule a parent conference to discuss their results, areas of strength, and opportunities for continued academic growth.

September Guidance Focus: Anti-Bullying

During the month of August, Ms. Hamilton familiarized our scholars with the WRE P.R.I.D.E. school-wide expectations and introduced herself and the counseling services available to our scholars.

During September, guidance lessons will focus on Anti-Bullying. In Texas, bullying is defined as a single significant act or a pattern of harmful actions directed at a student that exploits a power imbalance. Scholars will learn about the various forms of bullying and how to recognize and respond appropriately.

Scholars in grades 3–5 will also learn the R.I.P. method to help determine whether a situation may be considered bullying:

R = Repeated or a Really Big Deal

I = Imbalance of Power

P = Purposeful

If you suspect that your scholar is being bullied, please contact Ms. Hamilton at 972-223-3800.

Join the WRE PTA

We want every WRE family to be part of our PTA! Membership is just $11.50 per family member. Joining the WRE PTA is a great way to support our scholars, staff, campus programs, and family engagement activities throughout the school year.

Important: No School September 4th & September 7th

Please mark your calendars:

Friday, September 4th – No School for Scholars due to Staff Professional Development.

Monday, September 7th – No School for Staff or Scholars in observance of Labor Day.

We look forward to welcoming all of our scholars back to school on Tuesday, September 8th.

Dear WRE Parents and Scholars,

WRE Parent Newsletter: https://app.smore.com/n/81ga6

We are excited to begin Week 3 at Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy! As we continue settling into the school year, our focus remains on strong instruction, consistent attendance, positive character, and making sure every scholar is ready to learn each day.

Beginning-of-Year Assessments

Our CLI and i-Ready Inform Beginning-of-Year assessments begin this week. These assessments provide our teachers with important information about what our scholars already know and where they need additional support or enrichment.

Parents, you can help your scholar do their very best by making sure they:

Attend school every day
Arrive on time and ready to learn
Get a good night's rest
Eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school
Come to school encouraged and ready to show what they know

Every instructional day matters, and we want all of our Eagles present, prepared, and ready to show what they know!

Character Counts Week

This week, WRE will celebrate Character Counts Week! Scholars may dress down each day by wearing the designated Character Counts color with jeans.

Please remember:
Jeans must have no holes or rips.
Scholars must wear closed-toe shoes. No Crocs or sandals.

Scholars who are not participating in the Character Counts dress days are expected to wear the DeSoto ISD uniform.

We look forward to seeing our Eagles show their character and school spirit throughout the week!

The WRE ClassDojo 100% Challenge!

We have a fun challenge for our WRE families! Our goal is to make sure 100% of our parents are connected to their scholar's ClassDojo classroom.

ClassDojo is one of the primary ways our teachers communicate important classroom information, reminders, celebrations, upcoming events, and updates with families. Staying connected helps ensure you don't miss what's happening in your scholar's classroom.

Here's the challenge: Every class that reaches 100% parent connection on ClassDojo will earn a Popsicle Party, courtesy of the WRE A-Team!

Parents, we need your help! If you have not connected to your scholar's ClassDojo classroom yet, please reach out to your scholar's teacher for assistance.

Let's see which classes can reach 100% first!

Parents, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Week 3 is another opportunity for our scholars to learn, grow, demonstrate great character, and continue reaching for new heights.

Let's have another great week at Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy!

Next week, Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy will celebrate Character Counts Week, August 24–28! Throughout the week, our scholars will focus on the character traits we want them to demonstrate at school, at home, and in our community.

Scholars are invited to participate in our Character Counts Dress-Up Days:

Monday, August 24 – Trustworthiness
Wear a BLUE shirt with jeans as we focus on being honest, reliable, and dependable.

Tuesday, August 25 – Respect
Wear a YELLOW shirt with jeans as we practice kindness, courtesy, and treating others with dignity.

Wednesday, August 26 – Responsibility
Wear a GREEN shirt with jeans as we demonstrate accountability and making good choices.

Thursday, August 27 – Fairness
Wear an ORANGE shirt with jeans as we celebrate treating everyone equally and playing by the rules.

Important Dress Reminders: Jeans worn during Character Counts Week cannot have holes or rips. Scholars who choose not to participate in the Character Counts Dress-Up Week are expected to wear the DeSoto ISD uniform.

All scholars must wear closed-toe shoes every day. Crocs and sandals are not permitted.

Parents, thank you for helping us reinforce these expectations and for partnering with us as we teach our Eagles that good character is something we demonstrate every day, not just during Character Counts Week.

Six Pillars. One Woodridge. Be the best you. Show good character. Every day.

08/16/2026

Dear WRE Parents and Scholars,

WRE Parent Newsletter: https://app.smore.com/n/py34k

We had a great first week of school, and now we are heading into Week Two at Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy!

Thank you to our parents and families for your patience, support, and partnership as we worked through our first-week routines. Our scholars are becoming more familiar with their classrooms, teachers, schedules, arrival and dismissal procedures, and expectations. Now that we are settling in, our focus continues to shift toward strong instruction, learning, and making every school day count.

Arrival and Attendance

Our school building opens at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop your scholar off before 7:30 a.m. We do not have staff available to supervise scholars before the building opens.

Scholars should arrive with enough time to eat breakfast, get settled, and be ready for instruction.

Scholars are considered tardy at 8:15 a.m. Being at school every day and arriving on time matters. Every instructional minute is important, and we want our scholars in their classrooms ready to learn.

We are now following our regular arrival procedures. Parents should drop off and allow our WRE team to help scholars safely make their way to class. We want our Eagles to continue building confidence and independence as they learn their daily routines.

DeSoto ISD Dress Code

All scholars are expected to follow the DeSoto ISD Dress Code each day. Parents, please help us by checking your scholar’s attire before they leave home each morning. Following the district dress code helps us maintain a school environment where scholars are ready to learn and focused on instruction.

Dismissal and Scholar Pick-Up

If your scholar’s dismissal method changes, please communicate the change directly to your scholar’s teacher before 2:30 p.m. through ClassDojo, email, or by contacting the front office. We will not change a scholar’s dismissal procedure based only on information provided by the scholar.

Parents, please remember that all WRE scholars must be picked up no later than 4:00 p.m. each day. We no longer have the ability to pay staff members to remain after their workday to supervise scholars who are picked up late. I need the support of all of our families in making sure scholars are picked up on time each day.

If your family needs after-school care, we do have the ACE After-School Program available on our campus. ACE provides care until 6:30 p.m. and also offers drop-in services for families who may only need after-school care on certain days. Please note that ACE is a paid program.

Information about the ACE After-School Program, including how to register and learn more about their services, is listed below in this week’s newsletter.

WRE PTA Membership Reminder

Parents, this is an important reminder that all WRE parents are required to join the WRE PTA. Membership is $11.50 per family member. This expectation was explained to families as part of the acceptance process into Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy and is not optional.

Our WRE PTA does so many great things to support our scholars, staff, campus programs, activities, celebrations, and school community. Your membership helps strengthen the partnership between our families and our school. Please Complete your WRE PTA membership at joinpta.org.

Stay Connected

Please continue to read the WRE Parent Newsletter from beginning to end each week. It contains important dates, reminders, instructional information, campus events, programs, and updates that families need to know. ClassDojo and our campus page are also important ways we communicate throughout the school year.

Week One was about getting settled, learning routines, and establishing expectations. Week Two is about continuing those routines while getting fully focused on teaching and learning. Parents, thank you for trusting us with your children and for continuing to partner with us. Scholars, come to school each day ready to learn, work hard, ask questions, and give your best effort.

We have a great year ahead of us at Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy. Let’s make Week Two a great one!
