Y’all we have a DISCIPLESHIP PROBLEM in church today. I’d go so far to say, it’s not a new problem but an ancient one. A 2,000 year old problem. Jesus drew crowds. Jesus performed miracles. But his decision to disciple 12 men changed the world. And even one of them fell away. We see some of the same problems in church today. We have no problem drawing crowds. The gospel message is compelling enough to do that. Man, I’ve even seen people experience tangible, unmistakable miracles — and yet they aren’t Christians today. What is happening? There is a disconnect. We don’t lack for spirituality in our culture. But when those beliefs demand something of us, that’s where things get tricky. And so if we don’t live out what we say we believe, functional atheism is the byproduct. Most problems your church is likely facing today — it’s not a giving problem, it’s not a service planning problem, it’s not a building/parking problem, it’s not a systems problem. It’s likely a discipleship problem. Just saying…somebody should do something about that. 👀
