Deshler Lutheran Elementary School Deshler Lutheran School provides a quality Christian education to the Thayer County area and beyond. In 1893, a new school was built for 63 pupils. In 1899, St.

Trinity Lutheran at Friedensau, called the first teacher to the Nebraska District. The school year was divided into three sessions; September-January, January-March, and April-July. Each session saw a change in enrollment. The older children would attend until there was work to be done at home on the farm. From 1894-1907, a private school stood three miles north of the Little Blue River. In April

of 1907, the members of Trinity who lived north of the river formed their own school district. They purchased the school building and moved it one mile north. The cost of moving, rebuilding, and purchasing two acres of land was $403.15. In 1925, the north and south schools changed from German to English. In 1928, the north school was replaced by a new building and had an enrollment of 48 students. The following year, a new room was added to the south school. In 1949, a new school was built (Fridensau's former parish hall until 2002). In 1956, the two schools combined at the south school. There were two classrooms; grades 1-4, and grades 5-8. In June 1959, the north school and teacherage were sold for $3,769.25. The school was moved to Deshler, and the house was moved to Belvidere. The Kiowa school was started in 1881, but did not have a permanent teacher until 1893. There was a one-room school, which stood across the road, south of the church. In 1930, the Kiowa school had 66 students. In the early 1930's, the Kiowa school and the north and south
Friedensau schools had a combined enrollment of nearly 170 students. This was a huge enrollment, considering that there was a school generally every four miles. Schools were placed this close together to ensure that no one had to walk more than two miles to school. The Kiowa school and its contents were sold at auction after the consolidation. Peter's Deshler Lutheran School was established and had an enrollment of 37 students. When a new church was built in 1890, the old building was moved across the street to be used as a school. It was added onto twice. In 1925, the the Lutheran Business College was purchased and used until 1931, when it was traded in for the public school. The present school was built in 1953. The Deshler Lutheran School Association was formed in 1966, when the Lutheran School Districts merged.
