Congratulations to Maine West art teacher Chuy Benitez for being among eight local educators recently recognized in the 2026 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Chicago Regional Ceremony for having the highest number of individual student art award recipients!
In addition to being honored by the Scholastic Arts and helping his students excel in their art, Benitez recently excelled in his own art and had three of his photographs published in the photobook Chicano Camera Culture by Elizabeth Ferrer.

Last week, Maine West had its annual Culture Celebration Week, including activities and events like an international film festival, cultural music during passing periods, food, performances, and many more to highlight different countries and their cultures.
The festivities ended with an assembly featuring dance and musical performances, a cultural parade, and honoring spring season sports. Students also got to dress up to represent their cultures. What a special way to come together as a community, Warriors!
