Coronavirus (Covid-19) Information

Dojo Update March 19, 2020

Hello to all of our Tenri Judo members

We all hope that our Chicago Tenri Judo family are well and in good spirits in spite of this Corona virus outbreak. We continue to keep the health and wellness of our members, black belts and our communities they live in, as our top priority.

We want to share the actions we are taking to help protect our members and provide some tips on what you can do to help.

Classes suspended until at least March 31st. We will evaluate this on a weekly basis. Advice from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The Department of Public Health for the State of Illinois will dictate when we will re-open – probably when schools reopen and when shelter-in-place directives have been lifted.

What You can Do NOW and to practice good hygiene at ALL times will be a key to our getting back to regular workouts. And good hygiene is a habit that must be practiced every day (that includes home, school, work, at play as well at the dojo).

1. One of the most important things you can do is to practice good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently. Cover your nose and mouth when you have to cough and sneeze. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content. Please stay home if you are sick.

2. If you think you have the virus, CALL your primary doctor; do not go to the emergency room where there is potential you can infect others. Be mindful of being in public where there is a chance you could spread the virus.

3. If you or your child has come in contact with someone with Covid-19, please let the dojo know so that we can advise our members of this and take precautionary measures. We would prefer you NOT to be a vector in this pandemic.

4. Lastly, our thoughts go out to all of those who have been affected by this virus and our thanks to all the caregivers and others working tirelessly to help resolve this issue.

Remember, small actions can make a big difference when everyone helps out - let’s all do our part. Be informed. The CDC and the State of Illinois Department of Public Health are constantly updating their websites with the latest information.

What we /you can do to prevent illness and help the dojo

1. We are being even more vigilant in cleaning/disinfecting the mats as best we can on a regular basis. This will include spraying and mopping the floors and crash pads with disinfectant before and after each practice.

2. Wash hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds especially after going to the bathroom – all the time.

3. Use hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol as often as necessary. This is encouraged for all members and parents.

4. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover your nose and mouth if you sneeze or cough with tissue (throw the tissue away). Or use the inside of your elbow.

5. Asking all members to wash their Judogi’s after each practice in cold water, hang dry or dry at no-heat/fluff on your dryer settings. This will also help to NOT shrink your judogis.

6. Wear slippers when going to the bathroom. Slippers will be available in the changing area.

7. Do not walk on bare floors with bare feet or stocking feet. Do not walk on the mat with shoes or slippers.

8. Always practice good HYGIENE of your body. Include finger and toe nail hygiene by cutting them short.

9. If sick, stay at home. Avoid contact with people that are sick. Continue social distancing of at least 6 feet until the corona virus has become contained.

Lastly, your pre-paid membership fees will be carried forward to the next month. We will make final adjustments when this crisis resolves.

I am receiving notices from other areas of the country of cancellations or possible cancellations of Judo events.

I suggest that before you plan any trip for any reason, Judo or otherwise, that you think twice about traveling and being in big crowds. For more information about Judo events, please check the following sites.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Information for Chicago Tenri Judo Dojo

Chicago Tenri Judo Dojo is aware of and monitoring the development of this public health issue. We want you to know that the health and safety of our members, black belts, and visitors to our facilities is the most important issue and we want you all to feel safe.

Because of that, we are SUSPENDING PRACTICES for at least two weeks, starting Friday, March 12, 2020. We will send weekly updates as to when we will be starting practices again. We hope it will not be too long.

In the meantime, please keep us informed of anyone from your family who has been in contact with anyone with the Coronavirus bug, so that we can take appropriate measures to inform the rest of our members.

If the suspension of practices are prolonged, adjustments (extensions) will be made for your monthly dues.

Other health guidelines will be published over the coming weeks. If you are not currently registered in Zenplanner or are not receiving emails, please send a Facebook message with your email address and we will add you to the mailing list.

Thank you for your understanding.
