September 7 & 8, 10am-2pm Drop in anytime between 10-2 to help plant native plants. Plant a few, or plant a few hundred! We are planting over 2200 native plant plugs at the Skokie campus to create a prairie! Far east side of campus, outside the Arts wing. We'll provide gloves and tools. Dress for the weather, bring your own water bottle and snacks if you'll be staying a while. Hope to see you there!

A note from Deb Kutska, Sustainability Specialist: It has been a wonderful privilege to help guide Oakton Community College in Sustainability Initiatives over the past seven years, but it is time for me to move on to a new role outside of the college. Congratulations to all of Oakton's graduates! What a crazy year it has been. We are proud of the 103 students who have signed on to the Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility.
Students who took this pledge indicated their reason for doing so and we put their inspiring words together into this word cloud. They received a green ribbon to pin to their gowns and a plantable seed card with native black-eyed susans. We look forward to seeing all they achieve!

One of the great features of our physical campuses is the LEED Gold Certified Margaret Burke Lee Science and Health Careers Center (the Lee Center). Since it is still tough for folks to get to campus, we have a short (16 minute) virtual tour of the space provided by Sustainability Specialist, Deb Kutska. Enjoy and we hope to see you out on campus again soon!

“Start local, either planting veggies or trees in your backyard, cleaning up your neighborhood park, or connecting with your local forest preserve for ecological restoration opportunities,“ says Debra Kutska, sustainability specialist. Also, this is a great time to evaluate your carbon or water footprint.”
