Never judge your playing as good or bad.

It is merely right or wrong.

Mr. Adam...........

🐕 Aloka's Journey: A Beautiful Lesson in Trust - Aloka began as a stray dog wandering the streets of India, living a life of hardship, hunger, and uncertainty. He had no home, no one to call his own, and nothing but his gentle spirit and an innate willingness to trust. He never dreamed he would one day travel to the United States, nor did he imagine he would walk 2,300 miles for peace, becoming a name held tenderly in the hearts of millions around the world.

Everything simply unfolded, one step at a time, as he kept walking with the venerable monks—trusting them, following them, and being fully present in each moment. This is such a beautiful reminder for us: when we live our lives and approach our work with sincerity, wholesomeness, and mindfulness, life brings its best to us in ways we could never have planned or imagined.

Often in our work and our daily lives, we feel the urge to grasp or force results. We worry about tomorrow or try to control every detail of our destiny. But Aloka didn't worry. He simply walked, trusted, and remained present. Through his example, we see how an extraordinary path can gently unfold when we let go of anxious worry about the future.

Whether in our professional efforts or our personal paths, the most precious destinations are often the ones we never planned for—the ones that find us when we simply walk forward with peaceful, trusting hearts. When we do our work with dedication and maintain a mindful presence, we allow life to unfold naturally in its own perfect, beautiful way.

May we all learn from Aloka's tender journey to trust the path we are walking. May we can fully live in the present moment and can recognize the peace has always been right here and now.

May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏✨

10 lessons from a life in learning and teaching music
Kyle Gregory

1. The main thing is you are teaching people how to practice and listen, what they need to do when they are alone with their instrument or listening to live music and recordings. They must learn how to practice and listen effectively.
2. Listening must feed enjoyment and inspiration. Coach them about what to listen to (the best of all styles) and how to focus their attention.
3. Routine and new music practice are two different ways of growing. One is building habits through a repetitive sequence of exercises, progressing from simple to complex. The other is progressing forward to face new challenges every day through new material. Both ways must be intertwined.
4. Demonstrate everything, ask them to copy you, talk as little as possible. Explanation is a pretty weak tool for transformation, because sound is beyond words. Two words usually suffice: THINK SOUND!
5. Observe students carefully and make a plan for their growth, doing first things first, second things second. See where they are, understand what they need next. Your role is mostly assigning the right tasks in the right order.
6. Ask them, from the beginning, to make their own music through composition and improvisation, not just to learn to read other people’s music. Everyone needs the experience of making their own music. This is why Jazz is such a powerful tool for human development.
7. Every student is different, and each moment in life is different. Some folks need to move faster and some need to stop hurrying. Sometimes they need reassurance and sometimes they need a (metaphorical) kick in the pants. For the few things you say, learn which precise words of encouragement and challenge they need, and how to say them in a way that they will be impactful.
8. Connect with students through your eyes, your smile, your tone of voice and feelings. You are there to support them in every way you can. Make them believe that you believe in them.
9. Keep learning from experience how to teach more effectively, identifying patterns and principles that solve problems. Reflect on what you are doing, what seems to work and what doesn’t. Keep asking yourself questions about how to inspire and coach better.
10. Enjoy the journey together with your students. Figure out strategies that fit your strengths, personality and deepest convictions. Be yourself. Be open. Remember the two energies in the world: giving and taking. Teachers are givers.

Quote of the day from Pat Harbison.

"Too much analysis of playing without analysis. A snake swallowing his tail."
