We are so incredibly excited to introduce Roosevelt's new Drama Director! JD Walter is incredibly honored and excited to serve as the new Head Drama Director at TRHS!

Theatre has been a part of JD's life since a young age. JD has spent years on stage and behind the scenes, playing everything from imaginative characters to memorable villains, most recently in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Des Moines Playhouse as a villainous High Priest.

What excites JD most isn't just a past in theatre, but helping students create their future. Whether students are experienced performers or have never stepped onstage before, there is a place for them in Roosevelt Theatre. Theatre is about creativity, confidence, collaboration, and finding one's people.

To the returning theatre students, JD can't wait to build on the incredible work already done. Together with Assistant Drama Director Ms. Coleman, JD looks forward to an exciting season with ambitious productions, new challenges, laughter, and memories that will last long after the final curtain.

We have shared this information at school and through Parent Square but please continue to review. Student Parking is Highlighted in YELLOW (West of Rider Drive). Staff Parking is highlighted in BLUE. There are the same number of total spots available to students as last year--the only difference is where they can park. Cars parked where they shouldn’t are subject to ticket, sticker and/or tow at owner’s expense. Families, please talk to your students about safe driving practices on and around campus!

Roosevelt and Central OPEN

Good morning, students, staff, and families. We have become aware of water pressure issues at many schools across the city this morning. At this time Roosevelt and Central both have full water pressure and are remaining OPEN. We have operations staff monitoring this closely and should we determine that we are starting to lose pressure and need to adjust our schedule for the day in any way, we will then communicate that immediately. Central Academy and Campus have incorrectly communicated that Roosevelt students should not ​attend class there. This was incorrect and students should still attend all classes.

We will update if needed through Parent Square and Facebook.

We are so excited to welcome over 2,000 students back tomorrow. The first week is always a whirlwind of information. We will have plenty of staff available and ready to answer questions but here are some key points to know as you prepare for the first day and first week at Roosevelt!

📆 We will be running a normal bell schedule every day. Student schedules are available on Infinite Campus. Students may view them on personal devices before school, during passing or lunch. Schedule change requests must be made online through the form: https://www.tinyurl.com/rooseveltschedule2026 - Schedule changes are not immediate or guaranteed.

💻 Students will be called by grade level on Tuesday 8/25 and Wednesday 8/26 morning to pick up a district issued laptop. If a student cannot make it during these times, alternative pick up options will be announced.

🪪 We will begin passing out current year IDs Monday in Directed Study & Release. Students can also pick them up as they get in line to check their laptop out.

🚘 Student parking is in the NW parking lot (west of Rider Dr in the north parking lot). Students may also park in legally allowed areas of the street. Safe and responsible driving is expected by all students, families and staff.

🎉 Doors open at 7:45AM with breakfast available in the cafeteria and 1st Period begins at 8:15AM.

Roosevelt High School Foundation and Alumni Association drew a huge crowd for this morning's reunion tour of the school. Roosevelt welcomed '76, '96, and "16. It was fun to have multiple generations together to see the historic elements that remain the same, alongside the various improvements made over the past decade. Go Riders!
