The Callanan Family suffered a tragic loss with the passing of Yore Jieng as a result of a tragic, unprovoked act of violence. The GoFundMe information to support Yore's family is below.
Click here to support Yore Jieng by John Lamb 14 year old Yore Jeing was shot in the head last night. All money raised will go to support medical costs and the needs for his parents and 7 other siblings.
Last day of school is Thursday, June 2. Dismissal is at 11:30 am. Good luck to the 8th graders moving onto high school! We will see the new 6th-7th-8th graders next fall at Callanan!

Congrats to the 8th grade class!
The last PTA general meeting of the 2015-2016 school year will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the Callanan Library. Come and hear a short presentation on internet safety and social media risks. There will be opportunities for discussion.
With regard to PTA business, the new slate of PTA officers for the 2016-2017 school year will be nominated and voted on. Notice is also given of proposed bylaw changes to be discussed and voted on.

Join us for the next PTA meeting on Monday, January 25 at 6:00 pm in the Callanan library.
Mr. Biggs, Roosevelt Principal, will talk about the high school scheduling process for 8th graders, and Lupe Thomason, who is the Community in Schools leader at Roosevelt, will speak about the transition to 9th grade and community opportunities for students, such as the Silver Cord program.

Book swap!
The Callanan Book Swap is coming! Students can turn in new or gently used middle school age appropriate books for coupons to exchange for different books!
Book turn in occurs December 7-10. The swap will be Friday, December 11, 2015 during lunch blocks.

Come to the next Callanan PTA general meeting on Monday, November 16 at 6pm in the Callanan library (media center).
Our guests will be the vice chair of the Des Moines school board, Teree Caldwell-Johnson, and a representative from Oakridge. Topics discussed will include issues pertaining to the school board and the Callanan-Oakridge partnership. Hope to see you there!
