Grace Preschool What is Project Based Learning? Project Based Learning is the in-depth investigation or research of real world topics (trees, pets, wheels). What do people do?

It includes highly motivated activities and experiences that allow for a student to be active participant in his/her own learning. Why are we doing Project Based Learning? Both themes and units have an important place in early childhood curriculum. However, they are not substitutes for projects, in which children ask questions that guide the investigation and make decisions about the activities to be undertaken. Unlike themes units, the topic of a project is a real phenomenon that children can investigate directly, rather than mainly through library research. Project topics draw children’s attention to questions such as: How do things work? What tools do people use? Possible Project Topics for the Year

* Buildings
* Pizza
* Lunch
* Wheels

How can parents and families get involved?
• Share knowledge of the topics (Gardner comes in and demonstrates gardening, Chef or Home Cook demonstrate cooking, Author shares the writing process)
• Bring in materials related to themes (family photos, rake, old cookie pan etc.)
• Volunteer time in the classroom or on field trips.

Calling all current and former Grace Preschool families! 💛

Remember those first-day drop-offs, little friendships, and the teachers who helped your child feel right at home? You’re part of Grace Preschool’s story, and we’d love to celebrate with you!

Join us for our 60th Anniversary Grown-Up Gala on Thursday, November 19, at Wesley on Grand. It’s a chance to reconnect with other preschool families, share memories, and celebrate the place that helped so many children get their start.

This evening is also a fundraiser supporting Grace Preschool’s teachers, classrooms, and educational resources. Your participation will help give future families the same caring start you remember.

We are so excited to kick off the school year and celebrate Grace Preschool's 60th year of providing high-quality education in Des Moines! Please join us next week for our Family Carnival, which will be a wonderful time for Grace families past, present, and future, as well as their friends and family.

In order for this event to be successful, we are looking for help with the following:

- Volunteer for an hour or two: We need support before, during, and after the event.
- Donate supplies: Help us keep costs low by providing necessary items.

As one of their fun summer activities, our preschoolers will be serving homemade lemonade and cookies with a little help from their teachers. Stop by, enjoy a refreshing treat, and encourage our young helpers as they operate their very own lemonade stand!
