One of the biggest mistakes I see homeschool moms make this time of year?

Buying curriculum without a clear plan and ending up overspending or rebuying later.😳

(Ask me how I know lol)

Now, before I purchase anything, I map it all out in a spreadsheet:
➡️ what I need
➡️ where it’s cheapest
➡️ what I’m actually going to buy

Simple, but it saves money and a lot of frustration.🙌🏻

If you want the exact template I use, comment “CURRICULUM” and I’ll send it over.

"Lord, help me be wise and kind. I pray for creativity in schooling and parenting today. Help me be a witness of your love and grace towards my children."

I would pray this before each school day. Not verbatim, but some flavor of this. I focused on being wise and kind with my words and being creative. And God heard. And He answered.

I could not have done, and continued to do, this adventure without Him.

I hope this encourages your hearts today.

I'm here to pray with you and help you💛

Anyone have a resistant homeschool student? 🙋‍♀️

We weren't that family...then we were. Thankfully, there are options!

1. Do hard things. Not all subjects are going to be fun all the time. That's okay. Learning grit and God's faithfulness to get through hard things , like spelling and math, will pay dividends in the long run.

2. Take a break. A few minutes, a day, a week, a month? Yes, you can do this. If it's a few minutes, your kiddo can run around the house, do a different subject, do some jumping jacks, go to the library, have a dance break. If it's a day, let the child know that this is an agreement. No amount of negotiating will let them not do the subject two days in a row. If it's a week or a month, let the student learn the same kind of lesson in a different way. Tie in the information in some creative way during the week.

3. Make it fun. This may be similar to #2. You can take a short break. Lighten the mood. (Did you know you control the mood of your homeschool? My husband reminds me, I'm the adult lol) Grab a snack. Put on some music in the background. Study at a park. Get creative. You know your kiddo ❤

What's your go-to trick for turning a rough homeschool day around? I'd love to hear your ideas!

You may have heard...🗣️
I started a podcast with Jose Lopez (Discover Your Win) this year🤩

My two guys were able to put together the new desk and lighting I needed. (Ian was in town for Spring Break...more on that later😉)

This episode was on reasons parents choose to homeschool their children. From learning challenges to flexibility, there is no wrong reason! We also offer some resources to help you along the way.

❓What did our homeschool value that led to this moment?

We valued relationships over getting every worksheet done.

Did he finish what was necessary and get good grades? Yes! Did we stop whatever we were doing when his attitude, you know, left something to be desired? Absolutely.

We didn't do it every time, which would lead to him feeling like he was never good enough. Honestly, sometimes teenagers have no idea they are even being rude.😁 We did stop everything when he acted particularly abrasive, rude, critical, or disrespectful.

➡️The key was to come to him respectfully. Yes, even if he was not respectful to me. I'm the adult in this situation and if he wants to know how a respectful wise, kind adult acts, I'm going to need to be his example for that.

We also showed him the importance of certain relationships, for example, grandparents.

There were times we had to remind them what makes his particular grandparents interesting? We also want them to do things that they both enjoy together. For instance, when my son was a junior in high school he started singing with my dad. Sometimes my daughter and my mom or my mother-in-law really enjoy just talking together on the phone and so they will spend time doing that. A little, thoughtful, kind nudge has a big reward.

You have to remind your kids why it's important. What makes this special? Why you have to take the opportunity now and not wait.

Homeschooling gives us the opportunity to shape not just education, but character and relationships.

If you're trying to figure out how to build a homeschool that actually supports that, I help families walk through those decisions every day.
