It’s that time of the year!! 🍂🍁

While there’s no general meeting this week due to fall break, this Friday we have our annual Oaktoberfest!! This is one of our most fun events where we’ll take a walking tour of all our beautiful trees on campus while they’re the prettiest colors, then end the tour with an array of fall inspired baked goods made by yours truly! (the deal EC👩‍🍳)
Think pumpkin, think apple cinnamon, think chai spices 🤞 you know the vibe

Oaktoberfest is definitely a fan favorite and we hope to see you there!!

Have you heard?? The goodest news!!

This week Noa shared about how California’s farm-to-school program reaches 500 districts and is now a permanent state policy!!

Schools are paired with nearby farmers and food producers to serve fresh local produce in their cafeterias. Students are also able to take field trips to these farms and literally see where their food is coming from!!

A key factor in this operation is The Food Hub, these hubs are local warehouses that connect the small farms directly with the schools, handling deliveries and paperwork that would otherwise fall on busy cafeteria staff. Spork Food Hub, based in Davis delivers 120 tons of produce to schools each week to over 40 school districts!!

Now that this program is permanent, district nutritionists can plan their menus and hire staff without that financial uncertainty! Farmers are also able to rely on consistent buyers of their goods instead of playing around with risky markets. Good for people all around!! 👩‍🌾👩‍🍳

This program is amazing and they have said they hope the positive feedback they’ve received helps set a better national standard for school foods🎂🥣🍎🥪

This past Tuesday a few of our EC members attended the 2026 Iowa Environmental Council’s Annual Conference!!

We had the opportunity to listen to various speakers and hear their perspectives about water quality issues in Iowa and legal developments regarding them.

Our amazing compost coordinator Isla, presented about the development of Griff’s Thrift, our fully free store on campus run by donations! 🧣👗👚🧤

This conference was a great opportunity for us to learn more about water quality in Iowa, agriculture, Iowa’s cancer crisis, and environmental justice. Thank you for having us we learned so much!!

This past weekend three of our EC members had the chance to participate in the Midwest Student Power Gathering at the University of Kansas’s campus. The event was structured around how to motivate others in our clubs and communities to join us in our chosen initiatives!

Deal then got to brain storming on how we can improve our organization and what environmental issues we want to focus on now and in future semesters.

Stick around for a full weekend vlog coming soon and to see what deal does next!! :)
