Message from Mrs. Grady - Meet the Teacher Open House on Tuesday, August 18 from 4:30-6:30 pm

Dear Carver Families,
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of George Washington Carver Community School! I am honored to join the Carver community and look forward to partnering with our students, families, and staff as we begin the 2026–2027 school year together. I have proudly served Des Moines Public Schools for the past 21 years as a teacher, instructional coach, dean of students, and principal. I am passionate about helping students succeed and building strong partnerships with families.

Please mark your calendars for our Meet the Teacher & Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, August 18, from 4:30–6:30 p.m. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teacher, connect with staff, and prepare for a successful school year.
We are incredibly grateful to Variety – The Children's Charity of Iowa for their generous support of our students. At the event, every Carver student will receive a backpack filled with school supplies. Families do not need to purchase school supplies or a backpack unless you choose to do so. In addition, students can stop by the Variety table to register for a chance to win a FREE bicycle!

If you have not already done so, please complete your child's online registration as soon as possible. This helps us prepare for a strong start to the school year. I am excited to meet each of you and work together to make this a wonderful year for our Carver Cougars. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
