Drake University Student Alumni Association Students Today. Alumni Forever.

The Drake University Student Alumni Association is a student organization that focuses on creating an engaging campus experience for Drake students, while providing them with valuable opportunities to network with Drake alumni. Members of SAA get the privilege of attending exclusive events, working to foster campus-wide Drake pride, and serving on committees or holding leadership positions within

the organization. SAA also maintains and upholds the official Drake University Traditions program, which lives within The Bulldog Book, a publication written and programmed by SAA. The Student Alumni Association is led by an executive board made up of passionate students.

Summer with SAA: Ella Hurst

Hey everyone! My name is Ella Hurst and this summer I had the opportunity to spend it in Europe. In June, my mom and I walked 250 kilometers from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain on the Camino De Santiago. After arriving back to Madrid, I said goodbye to my mom and started my study abroad experience with AIFS. I moved into my homestay, met wonderful friends from across the country, and traveled to: Valencia, Alicante, and Ibiza! I also got to try classic Spanish dishes, such as: paella, jamón y tomate, tortillas, and croquettes. I studied digital marketing while abroad, and made lasting memories during the World Cup ! Looking ahead I can’t wait to be back in Des Moines, and I am so thankful Drake University supported me through this wonderful experience. Hasta luego!

Summer with SAA: Charlie Mineart

This summer I’ve been all over the place in the best way possible. I’ve been continuing my Drake research assistant position, where I’ve had the opportunity to preserve Perry, Iowa’s history in partnership with the Darling Institute, Hometown Heritage, and the city of Perry, Iowa. Along with that job, I’ve been working at a golf course to get my fix of summer weather. I’ve also been spending time working with my Boer goats, which I will be showing at the Iowa State Fair in late August. I’ve also been taking the time to get some planning done for some fun events coming up at Drake. I’ve had such a great time hanging with friends, working, planning, and enjoying the sun, but I’m so excited to get back to school and back to the amazing SAA council.

Summer with SAA: María José Del Valle Laureano

This summer I’m back home in Puerto Rico and got to spend lots of time with my friends and family! Some of my summer highlights were my birthday, going to the beach, and seeing everyone again. This week I’ll be traveling to the Dominican Republic and enjoy what’s left of summer. So excited to be back in Des Moines and make amazing memories!

Summer with SAA: Elizabeth Mason

1. Two of my best friends graduated and are headed to KU in the fall (rock chalk!)
2. Watched my little sister compete at state track
3. Spent time catching up with my friends from my hometown
4. Playing pickleball
5. Fun fact: we absolutely love hotdogs!

7. Went to Omaha to see some of my Drake friends!
8. Lots of night swims at the lake
9. One of my friends has a super fun tradition of smoke ball bowling on the 2nd of July
10. My family got a new puppy named June!
11. My best friend and I went to the Minnesota Yacht Club festival in St Paul
12. We saw Lord Huron, Matchbox Twenty, Jensen McCrae and tons of other amazing artists
13. Got my Blue Moon Ice Cream fix in Minnesota

I am looking forward to heading back to Drake for a few days in August to see all of my friends before a trip to DC with my dad and my semester studying abroad in Prague!
