AIKI AS TAKEMUSU

Original Martial Spirit, now Aikispirit,

aspires to actualize ‘takemusu aiki,’ which was a concluding approach of Morehei Ueshiba’s lifetime of practice.

Most martial practices aspire to meet assault with counter-assault—violence to resolve violence.

Aikispirit aspires to neutralize assaultive force, using no strength, no pull, no aerobics, nor flexibility in a way that diffuses aggression.
It involves total body relaxation, deflection. leverage and flow.

Aikispirit builds this process through practice with tai chi, staff, wooden sword, cane, and hand techniques that share and reveal patterns of circles/spirals, calmness, flowing ki. This moves beyond martial practice to a state of ‘grace and ‘eloquence.’

Uniquely, in the deep spirit of Takemusu Aiki, Aikispirit emphasizes allowance of aggression to complete the force, rather than using aiki techniques to typically ‘attack’ and redirect the forces as a sort of 'soft' counter-assault. In Aikispirit, it is the aggressor who controls himself/herself.

As a result, Aikispirit aspires in its overall ‘mission statement’ to calm and protect BOTH aggressor and Aikispirit practitioner and, thus, transform the encounter from being one of conflict to one of harmony.

Congratulations to Mrs. Jeanine Abrons for promoting to 5th kyu in Martial Spirit/Aikispirit!!

Completion to this point is a survey of qigong, tai chi, kendo elements, wooden sword, open handed Aiki core hand elements, and middle staff intro forms and sparring using relaxation and flow that perhaps a couple hundred participants have never completed. Doing so opens a well-earned pathway into glimpsing and beginning to operate a process inherent in all of these practices. For example, gripped hand into perhaps nikyo technique flowing into henka waza shift mid-stream to a new technique into kaishi waza counters. Underwhelming vs. overpowering, doing more with less, receiving and blending—all while optimizing safety, relaxing and diffusing vs.counter- assault that only deepens and that outspreads into calmness in everyday life.
