This year, two of the "10 Under 10" awardees are graduates from the Social Work Program. Dr. Victoria Shrewsberry was in our very first BSW cohort and went on to get her MSW and PhD from USC. Joseph Warnau earned his BSW and MSW with us. Congratulations to the two of you.

36 BSW and MSW students enrolled in Social Welfare Policy Practice applied their advocacy skills at the Iowa Capitol in our annual Legislative Day event. It is always amazing to see students grow more confident in their ability to affect systemic change.

BSW students in SWRK 410-Social Work Research Project participated in the SHaPEN Symposium, which features scholarly work from students in the social sciences. First place overall, from 47 student posters, at the symposium went to BSW student Isabelle Piedras, for her project, "How Does Teen Pregnancy Impact the Teen's Wellbeing and Success?" Fourth place overall was awarded to Danyelle McGrew, for her project, "The Emotinal Impact of Chronic Illness on Healthy Siblings." Other student projects included:
-Mykiah Ayers: The Effects of Addiction
-Sidney Burbridge: The Impacts of Parental Incarceration on Early Adulthood
-Theo Langitt: ACEs and Homelessness
-Nata Mena: Challenges of First-generation Refugee College Students
-Halle Wulfekuhle: Belongingness in College

Last night, students and faculty from both the BSW and MSW programs gathered for our annual end-of-year celebration! The evening was filled with great food, recognition through departmental awards, and the induction of new Phi Alpha members.
