Morlock, Events & Communication The Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) Advisory Council leads the Governor’s state STEM initiative. This Council, co-chaired by Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and Vermeer Corporation President and CEO Mary Andringa, was created by Iowa Governor Terry Branstad’s to increase student interest and achievement in STEM and to promote economic development
in the state. One of Council’s initial action items is to increase student interest in STEM through the implementation of scale-up projects. In the spring of 2012, in a competitive process, Drake University was selected as the South Central Iowa STEM Hub. As a hub, Drake’s responsibility will be to fund the implementation of scale-up programs, develop an action plan for the South Central region, conduct a needs analysis and strength analysis in the South Central Region and evaluate the implementation of the scale-up programs. The Regional Manager, Advisory Board, and staff will also identify, grow, and create STEM programs at the university and in the surrounding area.
