Hello everyone! Here is information about Kappa Psi's philanthropic partner Reach Out and Read.
WHAT IS REACH OUT AND READ?
Reach Out and Read is a national non-profit organization that gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. There is more than 6,200 Reach Out and Read programs site throughout the country. These sites include healthcare facilities such as hospitals, health centers, pediatric practices, and family practices.
HOW IS IT INCORPORATED INTO PEDIATRIC VISITS?
Reach Out and Read-trained providers take the time at routine health checkups starting at infancy through age 5 to:
-Talk with parents about the importance of reading aloud
-Demonstrate how best to look at books and talk about the stories with their young children
-Encourage them to read together at home and build routines
around books
-Give a new book to each child to take home and keep
Providers have the greatest access to families with young children. More than 91% of children under the age of 6 attend a routine pediatric visits at least once a year.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?
Populations that are served by Reach Out and Read facilities show that:
-Parents are 2.5X more likely to read to their children
