🎃👻 LIVE FROM THE STUDIO: DOWNTOWN TRICK-OR-TREAT HALLOWEEN SPECTACULAR! 🎤🍬

ONE WEEK TO GO! And that means it's time for our studio singers to put the finishing touches on their SPOOKY SELECTIONS! 👻🎶

Next Saturday, October 24, The Voice Studio is bringing live music to Downtown Derry's Trick-or-Treat festivities!

🎤 Studio singers, get those Halloween tunes performance-ready! Drop in and sing with us anytime between 12–3 PM. No sign-ups necessary!

🎃 Costumes are absolutely encouraged, but not required!

🍬 We'll have treats for our trick-or-treaters!

Whether you're performing, cheering on our singers, or making the rounds collecting candy, come join us for a spooky, silly, music-filled afternoon!

No tricks. Just treats. And some scary good singing. 👻🎶🩵

WAIT. I CAN DO THAT?! 🎶🩵

I've been teaching Annika since she was a peanut. And one of the great joys of teaching a student for years is getting to witness moments like this.

We were working on a particularly high note in her lesson, applying the technique we've been building.

And she NAILED IT.

Her eyes went wide, and she immediately looked over at me.

“That's the first time I've been able to sing it like that!”

And then we celebrated. Because OF COURSE WE DID. 😂

I love watching students discover what they're capable of, especially when they've worked hard to get there.

Annika, I love watching you grow as a singer and as a person. And getting to share these little victories with you?

That's one of my favorite parts of this job. 🩵

EVERY STUDIO NEEDS AN UNCLE KEV! 🔧🩵

Uncle Kev and I have known each other since childhood, when our older siblings started dating. He's like a brother and a bestie wrapped into one. The Waldorf to my Statler, and we have the MOST fun together.

He's a talented trombone player, a talented builder, works in a Massachusetts high school theater department, and can make just about anything.

He also makes me laugh. Consistently. Even when I'm sad.

AND HE HAS A LEVEL. 😂

Uncle Kev installed the fabulous, trippy lights on our lobby's “sky rail,” and he's now hung not one, but TWO televisions on our backroom wall.

Why two?

Well. The first one he installed ON HIS BIRTHDAY. And when I turned it on afterward, we discovered it hadn't survived the move.

Lesson learned: Plug in the TV BEFORE mounting it to the wall. 😂

So when I showed up with a wicked heavy replacement, Uncle Kev and I headed right back to the studio to do it all over again.

This Monday, we hosted a movie night at The Voice Studio, made possible by that new TV. And every time our lobby lights up, that's Uncle Kev's handiwork, too.

We're so grateful for the people who show up to help us grow and improve this place where our students come to grow and improve themselves.

And I'm especially grateful for this guy, who brings his tools, his time, his talents, and a whole lot of laughter.

Tonight we celebrate you with tacos, Uncle Kev! 🩵

SHE BROUGHT SHEET MUSIC. 😂🎶

I had one of those little teaching moments last week that absolutely made my day.

A student sat down for her lesson and pulled a folder out of her bag.

Now, this particular student does not generally arrive with folders. So naturally, I noticed.

I looked at her and said, “If there's sheet music in that folder, I might actually lose my mind.”

SHE GRINNED AND PULLED OUT SHEET MUSIC.

I nearly lost my mind. 😂

She's recently joined her school chorus, and she's excited about it! She has music to learn, a part to sing, and she came to her lesson ready to get to work.

I've known this student for years, and watching her grow into herself as a singer has been such a joy. Seeing her this excited to tackle something new?

THRILLED. 🩵

And a little love for the wonderful school chorus teachers who recognize these kids' abilities, encourage them, and help them discover the joy of making music together.

You made this voice teacher's week. 🎶🩵

WELCOME TO THE VOICE STUDIO, KAEDEN! 🎶🎙

One of our favorite ways to meet new students is through the singers who are already part of our studio family!

Kaeden came to us through a fellow student, but he was already a familiar face! We've had the pleasure of seeing him perform in musicals alongside several of our students over the years, so we were thrilled when he decided to join us for vocal training.

Kaeden has an impressive vocal range and brings both talent and a serious approach to his music.

We're currently helping him prepare for his upcoming Newsies audition with Pinkerton Players, and we're delighted to have him here!

WHEN THE TECHNIQUE WORKS! 🎤🩵

Bobby has a school musical audition this week, and we've been tackling a song that sits right at the top of his current vocal range.
Last week, he was fighting a cold AND some challenging high notes. We worked on technique, talked through how to approach those notes, and sent him home to practice.

This week?
BOOM. HE NAILED THEM. 🎶
He practiced, applied what he'd learned, and those tricky notes were suddenly right where we wanted them!

And with the vocal challenges coming together, we could dig into character, storytelling, and his ensemble audition material.

THAT is audition preparation.

It's not just learning a song. It's developing the technique, confidence, and skills to tackle the next challenge, too.

Bobby, I'm SUPER PROUD of the work you've done and can't wait to hear all about your audition! 🩵🎭

Or, as we affectionately know those last two around here: the Arias. 😂🩵

WELL. That went well.

Auditions take courage. You walk into a room, do the work you've prepared, make your choices, and then let somebody else decide where you fit into the story.

We are so proud of every one of these performers and cannot WAIT to see what they do with these roles.

And a huge congratulations to the entire cast of Seussical Jr.! There is so much talent on that list, and we're excited to see all of you bring this wonderfully ridiculous world to life. 🎭🎶

Ana-Lucia made me cry Saturday night. 🩵
And I mean that as the highest possible compliment. 😂

I went to Walnut Hill School for the Arts to see Ana-Lucia perform in Women Who Rock, where she sang and danced her face off all night.

And then she sang “Both Sides Now.”

I've watched Ana-Lucia grow as a singer and performer, and seeing her stand on that stage so confidently, completely present and fully performing that beautiful song got me.

She was mesmerizing.

She went on to be the featured vocalist in the finale, and the entire production was simply awesome - in the truest sense of the word.

I have to give Walnut Hill some love, too. As an educator, I light up watching what happens there. These young artists are immersed in their craft and surrounded by people helping them develop the skills, artistry, confidence and discipline they'll need to pursue it.

As the aunt of a Walnut Hill alum - and several other Walnuts I've collected and loved along the way - it gets me right in the feels. 😂🩵

Saturday night, I got to sit in the audience and watch Ana-Lucia absolutely shine.

ANNA'S FIRST TALENT WIN! 🎹🎤🏆🩵

Anna arrived for her voice and piano lessons with Miss Danielle and Miss Grace this week with some SUPER exciting news!

She won her very first talent award over the weekend, playing piano AND singing during a competition!

And we couldn't be more thrilled for her! 🩵

Overall Talent is one of our favorite awards to celebrate here at The Voice Studio because it recognizes the musicianship, preparation, dedication and hard work that go into a performance.

And singing while accompanying yourself on piano? That's no small undertaking! You're managing two instruments at once, and Anna is doing a wonderful job developing those skills.

She's only been with us for a short timee, and we're already seeing her grow more confident in both her singing and playing. Hearing about her fantastic competition weekend and getting to celebrate this first talent win with her was such a treat!

Congratulations, Anna! We're so proud of you and excited to see where your music takes you next! 🩵🎶

Welcome to The Voice Studio, Harper! 🎤🩵

Harper loves musical theatre and pop, with Taylor Swift and Megan Moroney currently high on her list - and we had a fabulous first lesson!

We jumped right in, started getting to know her voice, talked about what she wants to work toward, and made some music together.

Harper is an absolutely lovely young lady, and I am so excited to be working with her. I can't wait to help her build her skills, grow her voice, and accomplish the vocal goals she's set for herself.

Welcome, Harper! We're so glad you're here. 🩵🎶
