Students worked together to solve "WHODUNNIT" by using context clues during Ms. Rebel's Read 180 classes. The task was to determine the meaning of words like bellicose, haberdasher, and stultified. By working together, students demonstrated perseverance to complete the task. While not always successful, students were reminded of the importance of using context clues to unlock the meaning of unknown as well as unusual words.

It was a packed house for our DNMS Band Concert.

Mrs. Baeten and Mrs. V's largest intermediate band sitting at 71 students, performed two great pieces.

In the span of 4 school days, our Advanced Band performed at our fall pep assembly, walked/performed in our homecoming parade and now their first concert of the school year.

Amazing job tonight DNMS Band!

Remember that Winter Sports start THIS week. Please make sure to have your physical and Bound account completed before Monday or you may not be eligible to try out.

Information-

The All For Books toothpick pull has started in the Media Center. Bring $.50 or more and try your luck to win a prize. All money raised goes to buy books for the Media Center. Prizes include small candy, gum, bookmarks, small toys, stickers, twinkies, snacks, books, movie theatre candy, and more. The fundraiser will continue until the end of October in the Media Center.
Starting Monday Oct 12th we will begin 100% attendance of all students riding to/from school via school bus. The preferred and fastest method will be scanning their ID card (secondary students) or QR code (elementary students). Students that do not have a card for scanning will be manually added by the driver and we ask that students who do not have ID for scanning wait to load the bus after students that do have ID’s for scanning.
This will include staff to ride and latchkey students. Secondary staff to ride students will scan with their school ID.
Please join us for our DNMS Fall Craft Fair on October 17th 9 am to 1 pm. There will be food, drinks, and live music!

Have you heard your child mention StudentSquare (grades 6-12 only)? Are you wondering what it is and if they can use it during school hours? Here's your answer:

StudentSquare is the student-facing platform within ParentSquare, giving middle and high school students one central place to receive updates, communicate with teachers and stay connected to school activities. With their class schedule already loaded, students can easily access information and contact their teachers, coaches or sponsors.

Students can access StudentSquare during the school day through a web browser on their school-issued device, ensuring all middle and high school students can use the platform without needing a personal mobile device. For students who have a mobile device and wish to stay connected to school communications outside of school, the StudentSquare mobile app is also available to download.

In compliance with HB 2299, Parent/Square and StudentSquare are the district-approved platforms for communication between students and teachers, coaches, sponsors and other school staff.

Celebration: Celebrating National School Lunch Week! Did you know? President John F. Kennedy established this week in 1962 to highlight the importance of healthy school meals and their impact on student well-being and success. The National School Lunch Program helps ensure all students have access to nutritious meals that support learning, promote healthy habits and reduce food insecurity.

A big thank you to our amazing Food Service team for preparing thousands of meals each day for Derby Public Schools—you make a difference every single day!

I also want to celebrate Mrs. Langley and Mrs. Goble. They both ran the Wichita Prairie Fire half marathon on Saturday and both finished. That is over 13 miles. That is the same as running from DNMS and ending up 2 miles past Mulvane!
DNMS hosted the 7th Grade Volleyball A-Team tournament, and your Falcons battled their way to 4th place! Congratulations to our players and coaches on a great effort! Way to represent, Falcons!

Homework Helpers is available in the morning at the cafetorium Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday BEFORE school, 7:15 am - 8 am. Also available in the afternoons after school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the Media Center from 3:30-4:45 pm.
