On Friday, June 12, 2026, all 6th Graders from Derby Elementary, Newport City Elementary, Newport Town School and Jay-Westfield Elementary School will be visiting NCUJHS for the day to meet and greet with teachers and future classmates, and run through a typical "day" at the Junior High!
The transition from Elementary School to Junior High can be scary, but this is only our first step to welcoming our new 7th Graders to our school.
Over the summer, families can make appointments to come to the school to tour, try lockers, or just get familiar with the layout of the building.
Starting July 1, 2026, Principal Mrs. Brenda Waterhouse and Assistant Principal, Lynn Crew will lead the administrative team alongside Dean of Students, John Gunn. They will be joined in the fall by Guidance Counselors, Monique Hilliker and Katrina McFarlane, completing the school's leadership and support staff.
If you have any questions or concerns moving forward, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or by phone at 802-766-2276.

NCUJHS is excited to welcome back David Flood!
David’s humorous and genuine speaking style empowers students with social and emotional skills while teaching them the lost arts of dignity, respect, empathy, and Compassion.
David’s origin as a motivational speaker comes firsthand. He grew up impacted by addiction in his family. He married and became a father of two children; his oldest is a special needs son. He is active in his church, is a hospice volunteer who visits terminally ill patients, and is on the board of K.I.D.S Plus, a non-profit organization that helps special needs children. He is a member of the Northport-East Northport Drug and Alcohol Task Force.
David’s life teaches him every day about dignity, understanding, patience, forgiveness, and most of all, unconditional love. As a youth motivational speaker, David has spoken in 41 states and Canada to over 600,000 students, inspiring them to look at people and things differently. His online videos have received over 160 million views. He speaks with passion and conviction and, through his humility, leaves his audience with so much to think about in their formative years as they move into their future.
