Our final spotlight, we focus on last summer’s Open Tryout. Our biggest turnout yet.

It’s very exciting for us to meet so many new faces who all have different backgrounds, different goals, but all share one common value: their love for professional wrestling.

Our tryouts bring together many different people who likely wouldn’t be in the same room otherwise. We build that bond right from the start, as many experienced students and wrestlers have attended our tryouts to offer their support and motivation for all attendees. The open tryout tests everyone both physically and mentally, giving them a taste of what they can expect as they further their training.

Some have lasted, others have since left. We appreciate anyone who’s willing to give their time and honest effort in taking a chance on this. Many don’t make it that far. The ones who stuck with us are continuously learning and improving, and have begun to apply what they learn as they experience their first handful of matches. Some of them are performing on events this weekend.

A lot of hard work and dedication goes into wrestling training. As we tell anyone who walks through our doors, work with us and we will work with you.

Each tryout has been a bigger turnout than the last, and we hope to continue that trend. We’re excited to welcome all newcomers this Sunday August 2nd. This is just the first step. We will see you there!

Today’s spotlight, we shift our focus out of ring, on someone who’s just as much a part of Buffalo Wrestling Academy as any of our students, Nancy Ortiz.

Many of the photos you see on our accounts are taken by Nancy, as she’s around BWA all the time. Nancy is very kind, helpful, and goes above and beyond to make our students look good. Every wrestler wants to look cool in photos, Nancy makes that possible.

Whether it be during our weekly training sessions or on live events, Nancy captures many great moments and special memories of our students, and we’re forever grateful to have her around.

Our next Student Spotlight from our Summer 2024 tryout, we focus on “Wallless” Adam Wacker. Seen. Heard. Understood.

Wacker came to us with previous experience from a decade ago, having trained under the legendary Lance Storm at the Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary. Even with the decade long gap in training, Adam showed that wrestling is like riding a bike. He was a natural and picked up on things very quickly.

Wacker is very gifted when it comes to his promo work, he’s consistently improving his game in the ring to find new and creative ways to stand out, and he understands the importance of networking for opportunities. Wacker is making the most of any opportunity and is making his presence felt around the Ontario Independent scene.

Moving along to our Summer 2024 Open Tryout, we start with Brody Cole. Brody is a second generation wrestler who came to us from Erie, Pennsylvania. The son of longtime Erie wrestler “Blacksheep” Benett Cole, Brody practically grew up around the wrestling business.

Beginning his journey as a Referee, the Erie audience quickly began to familiarize themselves with Brody and take a liking to him. Brody Cole’s story continued from trading in the stripes for a pair of wrestling boots.

Shortly after his debut on the winning team of a War Games match, Brody captured the Erie’s All-Star Wrestling Tag Team Championships with his father, Blacksheep. Today, Brody Cole has become one of the most popular performers on the EASW roster, and continues to improve!

Last but not least out of our April 2023 Open Tryout, today we shine our Student Spotlight on “The Shot” Cal Keaton.

Cal Keaton came to us as a multi-sport athlete. Using his athletic background as well as previously taking acting classes, Cal was an early standout with his tenacity, which became contagious to the rest of our class.

Growing up attending local independent wrestling shows, it didn’t take long for Cal to have his first shot at sharing the same stage as the performers he grew up watching, and is steadily improving to climb the ranks. Cal quickly began to understand the importance in this business of “being one of the boys” and is someone that everyone enjoys having around.
