Before a Steinway grand takes its familiar form, its curve must first be created.

In this archival view from above, a team of Steinway craftspeople bends layers of wood around the grand piano form, working in concert to shape the continuous rim. The process requires strength, precision, timing, and an intimate understanding of how the material will respond.

Craftsmanship in perfect coordination — and the beginning of a Steinway.

A tradition carried forward today in New York and Hamburg. 🎹
