Remote teams can struggle because leaders skip the part where they actually get to know people.

So how do you engage your direct reports? (Yes, it takes more than "how's the project going?") It's more difficult to built relationships organically when you're in your own bubbles at home in different states.

Do you know what's going on in their lives? What are they into outside of work? What their likes and dislikes are? This is important because people work differently when they feel seen: You'll see better communication, less turnover, and more engaged employees.

✅ ✅
Here's two simple things I've seen in hundreds of companies that actually work:
1. Start 1:1s with just 5 minutes that have nothing to do with work. Ask about the weekend trip they mentioned. Remember the thing they shared last month and follow up on it. Latch on to a hobby they do and ask about it. Simply just be a person who gives a damn!

2. Don't schedule remote "culture building" events. They're mostly overrated. The teams I've seen build the most trust remotely didn't have more Zoom happy hours, they just had leaders who treated people like whole humans.

So what's something your team has done to actually build connection remotely?

👇👇👇 Drop it below, I'm always looking for new ideas as to what's working.

Your team isn't dropping the ball, they're guessing what you meant.
Clarity is a leadership skill, and like every skill, it can be learned (and practiced!).
Save this if you needed the reminder.
Share it with the leader in your life who can relate.

Yikes... guess what, leaders? Your team doesn't do what you say. They do what you do.

If accountability is optional to you, it will become optional for them too.

Most leadership development focuses on inspirational or motivational insight.

But true leadership habits live in the brain.

And neuroplasticity research shows that new behaviors only stick through repetition, feedback, and real-world practice.

This is why so many leaders leave workshops inspired… and then find themselves reacting the same way to problems at work just few weeks later. It’s just how the brain works. But it is fixable!

If this sounds like you or your office, it's time for you to think about rewiring your brain.

Curious for leaders here:

What leadership habit have you tried to change that keeps pulling you back?

True change at the executive leader level doesn't happen in breakthroughs. It doesn't happen in one-day workshops (though we all wish it could!) Change happens like an inchworm—slow, deliberate, one tiny movement at a time, with lots of repetitions.

Here's what nobody tells you: the inchworm never stops moving forward. And neither should you!

The advice nobody wants to hear. You already know what needs to change. You just haven't decided it's worth the discomfort to practice it yet.

According to LinkedIn's State of Women in Leadership data (2025), which analyzes leadership representation across 74 countries, women represent only 30.6% of leadership positions globally - even though they make up about 43.4% of the overall workforce.

Many notable women born in March have had a profound effect on American history in the 20th and 21st centuries. Let's salute a few of them here for : Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (b. March 15th), Activist and Journalist Gloria Steinem (b. March 25th), and First Female Speaker of the House or Representatives Nancy Pelosi (b. March 26th). Today's women leaders stand on the shoulders of giants.
