I've taught children's and family yoga longer than I've done anything else in my life. Longer than I was married for, longer than I was in school for, longer than I was a classroom teacher for. Why? Because it was and still is to this day the best job in the world. I get to be creative, have fun, play, breathe and stretch, and I always feel calmer and more energized after. And it makes my heart happy to see the kids react the same way.

Children need it. Moms and dads love it. Yoga simply helps in every aspect of life. We all instinctively know how to move our bodies and breathe, and children naturally breathe and move more freely and fully than adults. But, adding in the awareness, the consciousness is what helps our little ones become more connected to themselves and others.

The benefits are never ending and teaching yoga to littles has been my greatest honor and achievement. I created this hybrid live and online training in hopes of sharing this gift with other teachers. It is a great tool for classroom teachers, yoga teachers who want to add to their clientele, therapists who work with or want to work with children, and parents as well. And guess what? Next weekend is the only time I'm offering this training in Austin this year.

FOR A NEW BEGINNING

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life’s desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

“Like the universe is,
A giant ocean of darkness having infinite little stars illuminating light at different angles,
Like we are,
A giant universe of our own, with billions of stars hidden inside.”
― Mansi Kumari

This photo was taken Dec. 2020 on a road trip across the great US of A. During and after this trip I hid in a cocoon, hibernating in winter, reaching an emotional bottom that I can't explain other than to say that my purpose was changing, my friends were changing, my life was about to change, I needed to change and I was scared.

5 months later, I left my family and friends behind (again), moved across the country to a new place where I knew 2 people only. I bought a tiny house, moved into an intentional community and started a new job that I knew would be an everyday challenge. Why uproot and change it all? To let go of the comfortable darkness, face the fears, to try new things, to get small again and allow the flow of life to move me into a big heart place.

I feel it coming again, the letting go, the moving into the big unknown. Scary? A little... exciting? A lot.
The funny thing is we get to start over and move into the big unknown everyday if we want. We can do it on a major road trip, or simply in our daily meditation and yoga practice. We get to choose to face our fears simply by moving through them one breath at a time. We walk into the darkness and find the stars inside.

Come practice with me this week and find your inner light, your inner compass, your inner knowing.
