At Newlon Elementary, we would like to extend our heartfelt wishes to all mothers and mother figures for the love, care, and unwavering support they provide each and every day. A mother’s love is truly something special — filled with compassion, guidance, encouragement, and sincerity. Because of this dedication, our students feel supported, inspired, and empowered to grow and flourish.

Thank you for all that you do for your children and for our school community. Your impact reaches far beyond words.

Below are a few highlights from our third graders in Mr. Galvan’s class as they engaged in a special Mother’s Day project that integrated math, science, literacy, and visual arts. Students measured and calculated ingredients to make fresh homemade strawberry jam, wrote thoughtful acrostic poems describing their mothers’ character traits, and assembled their work into beautiful paper flowers to present as gifts.

We are incredibly proud of our students for expressing their creativity, kindness, and learning in such meaningful ways. Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers and mother figures in our community! 💐💖🥰

En Newlon Elementary, queremos extender nuestros más sinceros deseos a todas las madres y figuras maternas por el amor, cuidado y apoyo incondicional que brindan cada día. El amor de una madre es verdaderamente algo especial: lleno de compasión, guía, motivación y sinceridad. Gracias a esa dedicación, nuestros estudiantes se sienten apoyados, inspirados y motivados para crecer y prosperar.

A continuación, compartimos algunos momentos especiales de nuestros estudiantes de tercer grado de la clase del Sr. Galván mientras participaron en un proyecto especial del Día de las Madres que integró matemáticas, ciencias, lectura y escritura, y artes visuales. All DPS schools and administrative offices are closed on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, due to severe weather. This includes the Emily Griffith Technical College. All school-related events and activities, including athletic practices and all Discovery Link and ELCS Enrichment programs, are also canceled. Any CHSSA-sanctioned competitions are still scheduled right now. Coaches, please consult with your Athletic Director about your game.

We will continue to monitor the weather and will announce any updates first on the DPS homepage at www.dpsk12.org and district social media channels.
