What We Believe

It’s how children learn about themselves, their world and aids them in understanding how they relate to others and their environment. Research demonstrates that free play develops children’s language skills, promotes creative problem solving, enhances math abilities, reduces stress, allows them to take developmentally appropriate risks, improves memory and stimulates growth of the cerebral cortex.

We respect parents as the child’s first teachers, our educators as the second and the environment (both indoor and outdoor!) as the third teacher.

We see children as competent, inherently capable and able to be co-constructors of their learning experiences. We employ child-led emergent curriculum which means we focus on tailoring the curriculum around the needs and interests of the children. Our educators learn about these needs and interests through sensitive observation, documentation and thoughtful inquiry.

Our philosophy is strongly influenced by the work of Dr. Emmi Pickler, Magda Ge**er, Loris Malaguzzi and the Forest School movement with outdoor play in nature at the forefront of our foundational beliefs.
