A peek inside a 1-on-1 lesson with the incredible - pop soul singer-songwriter. 👀
Why is a pop soul singer-songwriter doing jazz scatting? Because challenging yourself outside your comfort zone – even just at the edges of your genre – only spices up your own sound and skills. The ear training, the agility, the musicality you develop? It all goes straight back into your unique sound.
This is what artistic development looks like. And yes - we celebrate when it comes together like this!

People don’t just hear your voice.
They feel your tension, confidence, freedom, emotion, and nervous system, too.
That’s why singing is never just about technique.
In this clip, licensed hypnotherapist shares why the internal state we bring into singing directly affects how audiences experience us – and why doing the internal work can completely change the way people connect to your voice.

Tongue circles are one of my favorite ways to release tongue tension and check in on how everything is feeling before you sing.
A tight tongue means less freedom — in your sound, your articulation, your range, your agility, and your stamina. Most singers don’t even realize how much tension they’re carrying until they start paying attention to it.
If they feel tiring or sore, your tongue is telling you something. Listen to it.

8 years. A celebrity vocal coach. And they still couldn’t adjust when something wasn’t working — because nobody had ever told them WHY.
That’s not their fault. That’s a training problem.
There’s a massive difference between a coach who gives you great exercises and a coach who teaches you to actually understand your voice. One keeps you dependent. The other builds real confidence, real skills, and a voice you can troubleshoot on your own — in the room, on stage, on a bad day.
The why isn’t a bonus. It’s everything.

Yes, I sound like a chipmunk 😆 I sped it up so you’re not sitting through 10 minutes of vocal exercises in real time.
But listen to the difference between my voice at the start vs the end – that’s what 10 minutes of the right exercises does.
Same ones I give my singers every day.

This seemingly simple exercise is one of my absolute favorites because it does so much — helps set your voice up for success, releases tension, and unlocks resonance. 🎤

If you’re dealing with voice issues, it’s important to know that an ENT/otolaryngologist and a laryngologist are not the same thing.
A general ENT treats a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions.
A laryngologist specializes specifically in the voice and vocal folds — which can really matter for singers, performers, and professional voice users.
Not everyone has access to a laryngologist depending on where they live, but understanding the distinction can help you find the best care possible for your voice. 🎤
Happy to share trusted voice specialist recommendations in Nashville or Denver if you need them.
If you’ve been told your voice can’t do something –
high notes, mix, riffs, power, whatever it is…
or if you’ve started to believe that yourself –
it’s time to challenge that.
For so many singers, it’s actually the tools, the messaging, and the beliefs around their voice that need to change.
That’s what this week’s episode of Vocal Tips in 10 is all about: ✨ Your Voice Was Never the Problem
