Today on International Tea Day, we celebrate the power of tea to bring people together across cultures, continents, and communities. For refugees and immigrants, sharing tea is often more than a tradition; it's a way to preserve our culture, build connection, and create belonging in a new home. โ๐
Last fall, Refugees + Immigrants United hosted our Uni-Tea: Connecting Cultures One Cup at a Time gathering, featuring tea and coffee samplings and tea and coffee ceremonies from Latin American, Asian, European, and African cultures. It was a beautiful evening of rich cultures, connection, and community. ๐ซ
We look forward to welcoming you again later this fall as we announce more details about Uni-Tea 2026 in the coming monthsโ๏ธ

This AANHPI Heritage Month, Refugees + Immigrants United is proud to see our Founding Executive Director Nga Vฦฐฦกng-Sandoval featured in this Colorado Public Radio story and conversation expanding on last weekโs Colorado Matters interview with Chandra Thomas Whitfield. ๐ป๐๏ธ
Weโre grateful to share this space with Annie Guo VanDan whose leadership through Asian Avenue magazine and Colorado Asian Culture and Education Network continues to uplift and preserve the stories of Coloradoโs Asian American communities.
Nga authored Coloradoโs first statewide AANHPI Heritage Month proclamation and spearheaded the work to make Lunar New Year an observed state holiday. This conversation reflects the power of AANHPI communities leading our own narratives and shaping lasting change. ๐ผ๐ธ
We invite you to read the story and listen to the interview. Representation is more than visibility. It's power, belonging, and the ability for our communities to define our own future. ๐ซ โจ
Coloradans celebrate AAHPI Heritage Month, reflect on major milestones and persistent challenges among Asian community Community leaders and advocates are celebrating improved visibility through storytelling, organizing and recent legislative milestones.
Weโre excited to spotlight another incredible voice in our R I You series. Meet Cathy Hoang! ๐
Cathy has been a dedicated RIU supporter, showing up to our events again and again, and bringing her family and friends along to experience the richness of our refugee and immigrant communities. From learning about diverse histories to celebrating cultural traditions, and sampling teas and coffees from across the globe from diverse vendors, sheโs embraced it all.
Whatโs even more inspiring? Cathy continues the ripple effect by sharing what sheโs learned with her networks and the broader community, helping amplify the stories and voices at the heart of RIU.
This is what community looks like โจ
Together, we keep building connection, understanding, and a more welcoming future.

Weโre incredibly proud to celebrate our Refugees + Immigrants United Founding Executive Director, Nga Vฦฐฦกng-Sandoval for being recognized among Coloradoโs AANHPI changemakers.
As part of AANHPI Heritage Month, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and Downtown Cultural Corridors Project are honoring leaders whose work continues to strengthen and shape communities across our state through a beautiful public art exhibit.
This recognition reflects years of Nga's advocacy, leadership, and unwavering dedication to immigrant and refugee communities, human rights, and making sure underrepresented voices are seen, valued, and uplifted.
Too often, AANHPI stories and voices go untold. Moments like these remind us why representation and community recognition matter so deeply.
Congratulations, Nga, on this meaningful and well-deserved honor. ๐
Youโre in for a treat! โจ๐
