As dietitians, we rarely encounter patients with ALS (pALS) in our practices, as they are typically under the care of neurologists. Conventional dietary and nutrition approaches to ALS remains largely unchanged over several decades, primarily focusing on calories, feeding strategies, and managing weight loss. Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy offers significant support for various metabolic imbalances in ALS: hypermetabolism, gastrointestinal dysbiosis, liver and detoxification, excitotoxicity, inflammation, oxidative stress, immune dysregulation, and mitochondrial stress.

Exercise and sports nutrition scientists have long performed studies on exclusively males, assuming the menstrual cycle either did not have a significant effect so results were applicable to both sexes or had too significant effect and counted as confounding variables.
Learn about the state of sports nutrition science on female athletes, overview of the menstrual cycle, and how hormones in the menstrual cycle effect performance and nutritional implications for dietitians working with female athletes.

Only a few days left to donate to a local food bank and join us in our Virtual Food Drive!
What is a virtual food drive? Instead of having collection stations for canned foods, we ask that you donate money to your favorite local food bank online. We, as the nutrition experts, know most canned and boxed foods are not always the healthiest options for those with chronic health conditions. By donating money, food banks can purchase produce and other healthy, perishable foods to provide to those in need.
After you donate, complete this short Google Form. On April 1st, we will compile the total amount donated in the month of March and present the results in the next Prospector newsletter and on social media.
