The mission of The GrowHaus is to cultivate community-driven food justice through education and food access. We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others fro

Operating as usual

Today is Juneteenth, a day to celebrate the resilience and triumphs of our Black neighbors, but also to acknowledge the injustices that persist.
For example, Black Coloradans were TWICE as likely as Coloradans who were white to report food insecurity in 2023, according to the Colorado Health Institute. These stark inequalities are unacceptable.
As the inspirational MLK believed, healthy food is a right for all, not a privilege. We aim to disrupt these historic cycles of food injustice through our food access, health and wellness programs, and leadership development opportunities.
You can learn more about this work in our 2023 Annual Report, linked in our bio.

In 2017, we introduced you to Michelle Rodriguez, as she joined our Seed2Seed teen leadership program.
Before starting the program, Michelle shared, “I want to be part of Seed2Seed to learn how to plant, cook healthy, socialize, and how to be a leader and make friends and connections”.
Seven years later, Michelle’s leadership is shining bright at The GrowHaus, as she now works to support our food access department and is returning to help lead this year’s Seed2Seed program, while she works to complete her Bachelor’s Degree.
Help Michelle and The GrowHaus continue growing future leaders today! Link in bio.

Happy Father's Day! To all the father figures in our community, thank you for putting your time, support, and love toward building a bright future for our children. Together, we are shaping a better tomorrow.

Silvia and Brianna, this year's Seed2Seed facilitators, started their summer of leadership off strong by joining volunteers in the garden at our También Day of Action last week. 🪴
Our facilitators supported community members in planting tomatoes, peppers, zucchinis, and more just steps from their front doors, setting them up to enjoy a summer of farm-to-table dinners.
These leaders will continue to broaden their knowledge of our food system throughout the summer and support their peers in doing the same. Join their leadership journey today at the link in our bio.

In addition to guiding their peers through a formative summer of leadership development, facilitators conduct a Passion Project, where they develop and implement a program to address a community issue that is meaningful to them. For Kassandra, this meant leading a clothing drive, while others volunteered at shelters or organized community health classes.
This year's cohort of Facilitators are already planning out their end of summer passion project. We need your help to support these incredibly talented young leaders. Join our monthly giving community today to ensure Facilitators have access to the mentorship and resources to make their passion project a success! All gifts will support this year's Seed2Seed and Facilitator cohort and for every new Tambien member a generous donor has agreed to donate an additional $50 to The GrowHaus!

Im-peck-able moments are the norm at Abejitas, or Little Bees, our summer youth program that welcomes children and their guardians to learn about health and wellness. 🐝 Introducing healthy habits to the youngsters of our community sets a strong foundation for a thriving neighborhood.
This summer, be sure to follow along with this enriching experience for our community's youth!

Our wonderful Promotoras are spreading their knowledge of healthy eating habits far and wide. During recent Home Visits, Promotoras talk to community members about different types of cooking oils, provide our neighbors with knowledge and inspiration for nutritious cooking, and offer a chance to connect over a delicious snack.

Wellness is more than just physical health; another crucial ingredient is mindfulness!
Knowing the importance of mindfulness in managing stress, improving sleep, and even reducing illness, The GrowHaus invites community members to therapeutic and relaxing events. These include embroidery classes, yoga sessions, and fresh air excursions. Alongside our neighbors, we minimize distractions and practice being present in the moment. In a busy world, prioritizing this aspect of mental wellness is more important than ever.

🌻We are thrilled to welcome Tepeyac Community Health Center into our fresh food access program! 🌻

Through this innovative collaboration, households in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea with someone experiencing a chronic condition can access fresh, nutritious food to support their overall health and well-being.

Thank you to Tepeyac Community Health Center for joining us in advancing fresh food access in our home communities of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea!

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

Tepeyac Community Health Center is partnering with The GrowHaus to launch a free fresh food box pickup program for families in the GES neighborhood! 🍎🥦

Access to fresh, nutritious food is essential for maintaining good health, especially for individuals managing chronic conditions. We believe that this program will have a positive impact on the well-being of our patients and the community as a whole.

This initiative will provide 50 boxes of fresh produce weekly to patients managing chronic conditions, with plans to expand to 300 families soon. Together, we're promoting healthier lives and food justice in our community!

🙌 Thank you to DaVita for their support!

Stay tuned for more updates. 🌱💚

Thousands of Denverites are eligible for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) but aren’t enrolled to receive benefits. This discrepancy can largely be attributed to a stressful and complicated application process, which disproportionally affects our Hispanic and Black neighbors, according to a recent article in Newsweek. To help bridge this nutrition gap, The GrowHaus proudly participates in Hunger Free Colorado's SNAP PEAS program (Partners Engaging in Application Services) to connect community members with sustainable food access assistance. Tania, of our Promotora Team, has been helping residents from around Denver with SNAP enrollment to bring them one step closer to long-term food security. Read more about Tania's work as a Promotora here:

Once your Fresh Food Access and Movement are thoroughly combined, you can add Community Connection to the Wellness Recipe!
Coming together with neighbors promotes collaborative learning and connection, contributing to overall wellness. Throughout the years, The GrowHaus programming, such as crochet classes, knitting workshops, and Promotora-led Home Visits, have built beautiful bonds within our community.

The second wellness ingredient is Movement!
Getting out and moving our bodies isn't always easy, but when friends, community, and smiles are involved, it is a lot easier. These smiles are seen at weekly Zumba classes hosted by The GrowHaus, which encourage community members to come together for physical activity.
What's more, as the weather gets nicer, we look forward to welcoming neighbors to our summer programs, where days will be spent being active and learning about the benefits of an active lifestyle. We can't wait to keep practicing wellness with our community's kids and kids at heart.

We are now accepting applications for Seed2Seed, a teen program focused on developing knowledge and skills related to food and wellness!
The program runs throughout the summer and brings young community members together for hands-on experiences and leadership development. Seed2Seed participants can be found trying their hand at a new recipe, harvesting fresh produce from a neighborhood garden, exploring nature, or engaging with their community.

This Mother’s Day, we are celebrating the caring mothers of The GrowHaus team and the incredible moms in our community. We have had the immense pleasure of watching many mothers and their children strengthen their bonds as they make a meal alongside our Promotoras or attend our educational summer program together.
Happy Mother’s Day!

In honor of Wellness Month, we introduce the first ingredient of The GrowHaus’s wellness recipe: Fresh Food Access.
Reliable and healthy food serves as a crucial foundation for the physical wellness of our community. Distributing fresh, high-quality food items provides our neighbors with ingredients to make nutritious meals to be enjoyed with family and friends.
Healthy food is a right, not a privilege!

This week, the stars of the show at our Food Access Warehouse are these gorgeous Granny Smith apples, grown right here in Colorado at The Apple Shed Orchard. ⭐️🍏
These goodies are not only full of flavor but also essential nutrients. Procuring ingredients from local farms means fresher, healthier foods that are transported with less packaging. Staying local also means supporting our local economy. It’s a win-win-win!

May is Family Wellness Month, a concept we hold very close to our hearts at The GrowHaus.
Through fresh food access, physical activity events, craft classes, outdoor experiences, and leadership development programs, we are centered on providing our community with opportunities to improve their wellness, whether that be of the body, mind, or soul.
Throughout the month of May, we will be sharing more about these happenings and the ways in which our neighbors have leveraged The GrowHaus to improve their wellness.
Follow along to see how our team is promoting holistic health for all!

A signature GrowHaus food box is always brimming with vibrant, nutritious produce and fresh ingredients. With tasty carrots, broccoli, pears, milk, and a huge head of purple cabbage, moving this one may be a bit of a workout 😅

Each box is meticulously packed by our incredible community-led team and then shared with over 5,000 neighbors throughout Denver. With only top-quality items in our no-cost food boxes, we aim to bridge the nutrition gap facing our city’s food-insecure communities.

Today is Earth Day, and we’re feeling extra grateful for a beautiful planet that grows nourishing foods and is a place for community connection. 🌱

In the Spring and Summer, and early Fall, local peppers, tomatoes, peaches delight us as they arrive at our food access headquarters. We carefully pack and distribute these Colorado favorites to over 5,000 neighbors across the city, so they can set their tables with the freshest ingredients. We are humbled by Colorado’s bounty and grateful to the land that grows our food.

Our land is also a place for community gatherings that promote wellness, mindfulness, and movement. In these spaces, we deepen our familial and community connections during outdoor therapy programs and multigenerational programs for children and their caregivers to come together and explore the natural world. 🌎

We express our gratitude by the way we care for the earth and teach our children to do the same. Our youngest neighbors and teens join us during Abejitas and Seed2Seed, to learn about composting, gardening, and the benefits of eating local food. What are you doing to celebrate and show care to our earth?

This morning we stopped everything to pay tribute to a humble-heart shaped potato. The Colorado harvest is just around the corner, and we could not be more excited! 🥰 Our love of fresh, local veggies runs deep! What local produce are you most looking forward to enjoying?
