URGENT: Help us tell Denver City Council that data centers cannot come at the expense of people's health. City Council meets this Monday, May 18, to vote on a one-year "pause" on the construction of new data centers. We need you to show up for The GrowHaus' home communities of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea (GES) in North Denver, who have been fighting back against CoreSites DE3 data center, which is already under construction in Elyria.
Our partners at GES Coalition have drafted a comprehensive letter asking the council to use a one-year moratorium on new data center construction to create a strong, enforceable ordinance that protects communities, water, air, utility affordability, public health, civil liberties, and the grid. This hits close to home, as Coresite's DE3 data center plans to operate around the clock at the heart of the Elyria neighborhood, next to The GrowHaus' land, as well as longtime family homes, senior housing, and other critical community hubs.
As neighborhoods overburdened by historical and ongoing pollution and divestment, our GES community deserves accurate representation and respect from our city officials. Please read, sign, and share this letter far and wide: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/mass-surveillance-in-denver

Earth Month may be coming to a close, but The GrowHaus team practices environmental stewardship all year long! As a food access organization that distributes more than 74,000 pounds of fresh food every month to over 7,000 neighbors across Denver, a robust composting system enables our team to responsibly dispose of any ingredients past their prime.
Composting diverts organic material from the landfill, where it would produce greenhouse gases, and instead gets made into a rich soil amendment that supports our local farmers and gardeners.
If you don’t already, consider celebrating Earth Month by setting up compost pickup with your municipality, a small local business, or by starting your own compost system at home! 🌎🌱

A note from our Senior Manager of Food Access and Procurement, Angelo:
“With April being Earth Month, I’ve been reflecting on how meaningful it is to rescue food for our programs. Being part of something that not only supports our community but also helps reduce food waste and protect the environment feels so special to me.
Last week, we sourced high-quality potatoes, oranges, bananas, lettuce, and radishes from our partner, Food Bank of the Rockies! We brought back over 1,000 pounds of food, bringing us closer to our monthly goal of sourcing and redistributing 25,000 pounds of rescued food.
It’s a reminder that small actions can have a big impact—keeping good food out of landfills, lowering waste, and making sure it reaches people who need it.”
This Earth Month, let’s all do our part to take care of our planet and neighbors.

With a team made up primarily of Latina women from the communities served, The GrowHaus connects 7,000 neighbors each month with fresh, culturally-responsive food. Our food access programs are directly shaped and led by community members whose firsthand insight helps direct resources to where they make the most impact. The GrowHaus doesn’t just distribute fresh food, it builds lasting community wealth by investing in neighbors’ career pathways.

This Earth Month, we’re proud to reaffirm our commitment to environmental stewardship. All year long, The GrowHaus works alongside its partners and neighbors to care for our planet, knowing that the actions we take today will impact the quality of life of future generations.
Together, we’re cultivating a more sustainable and equitable food system by sourcing rescued and local produce, sharing community education about reducing food waste and eating seasonally, and planting vegetable seedlings alongside our neighbors in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, communities impacted by decades of pollution, divestment, and limited access to fresh food.

We are thrilled to share that in March, one of our wonderful Food Access Associates, Erin (center), began an apprenticeship in which she will train with our Food Access managers to take on program coordination and administration responsibilities! Leadership development is an important part of The GrowHaus’ work, and our managers play a key role in supporting the growth of their team members, reflecting the same investment made in their professional journeys during their time at The GrowHaus.
