Taking Leave
Play by Nagle Jackson
Directed by Bryce Alexander
Shakespeare professor Eliot Pryne is packing what he thinks is a suitcase and leaving what he thinks is a hotel. In the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, he is "taking leave" of the real world and imagining a new one. His three daughters – a public school counselor, an actress, and a free-roaming ex-drug user – must decide the next steps for their father. This heartwarming dramatic comedy is about family and living life to its fullest, filled with the often farcical behavior that goes along with this disease. A clever, charming, and honest reflection on the true magic of life.
Phamaly is proud to partner with the Alzheimer's Association on the production of Taking Leave.

Aging With Spirit
A Sage-ingIntensive

and City of Longmont Senior Services
Friday eve May 6 – Sunday, May 8, 2016
Longmont (CO) Senior Center
We will:
➢ Examine the myths of aging and affirm our elder years
➢ Harvest our wisdom and transmit it as a legacy to future generations
➢ Look at the past as a ‘life review’ and ‘life repair’ with the wisdom we have now
➢ Understand that forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves
➢ Create peace of mind by doing the legal, medical, fiscal and spiritual work needed to face our mortality
➢ Identify ways for elders to serve as mentors and healers in society
➢ Develop our own vision of self as an Elder
➢ Nourish ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually
Who will benefit:
➢ Older adults and their families
➢ 50-something adults who wish to design their second half of life
➢ Anyone interested in conscious aging
➢ Professionals and caregivers who work with older adults
➢ Clergy, social workers and hospice workers
➢ All people who are interested in exploring a new paradigm of the life cycle as described in Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi’s book, From Age-ing to Sage-ing©
Participation in this workshop also serves as a pre-requisite for the Certified Sage-ing® Leadership training program.
“We must all pass through a gate of transformation to move from age-ing to sage-ing. This enables us to use our life experience to enrich our elder years, face mortality, repair relationships, develop a regenerative spirit and transmit wisdom to future generations. This process not only seeds the future, but crowns an Elder’s life with worth and nobility.” Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi

Registration and Networking: 11:30 a.m.–noon
Program: noon–1:00 p.m.
Jewish Family Service Board Room, 3201 South Tamarac Drive, Denver, CO 80231
Mental health is essential for overall health and well-being. Many times when working with older adults, mental health issues are overlooked or are not addressed for a number of reasons. As professionals that work with older adults, it is important to be aware of the possibilities or signs of PTSD, a chronic mental illness, or daily stressors. It is also important to advocate for mental health services and resources for older adults.
Join us for a lively panel discussion that will provide insight for students and professionals so we can learn the importance of mental health and what our community provides for our older adults!
Speakers include:
Mrs. Jeannie Ritter, former First Lady of Colorado and mental health ambassador at the Mental Health Center of Denver
Ms. JoAnn Toney, LPN, program manager of the Adult Spectrum/Nursing Home/Residential and Assisted Living Team at Mental Health Center of Denver
Dr. Carole Kornreich, retired psychiatrist with more than 40 years of experience in private practice
Cost: Free; bring your own brown bag lunch. Drinks and dessert will be provided.

Welch Scholarship in Aging
The Henry W. Welch Scholarship in Aging honors one of the Colorado Gerontological Society founders, whose commitment and dedication to the field of aging and human services spanned more than forty years. Dr. Welch was a forerunner and pioneer in the field of aging. He served as the first treasurer of The Society, helped to write the articles of incorporation and the by-laws, and providing parliamentarian support. For most of his career, Dr. Welch served the Denver community and Colorado, at the Metropolitan Council for Community Services, which is now the planning division of Mile High United Way. He excelled at community organization. Dr. Welch helped to found the Institute of Gerontology at the University of Denver in 1977 with support from the Administration on Aging. The Scholarship Fund was established to continue his vision of educating professionals in the field of aging.
This scholarship is designed to encourage academic studies in the field of aging, including gerontology, social work, public policy or various medical fields with emphasis in aging such as geriatrics, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychology or nursing.
