Reflecting on Ci Live 2024, here are key questions driving innovation in building practices:

📌 How can advanced building science improve energy efficiency across climates? Use climate-specific strategies: moisture control and ventilation for hot, humid zones; airtightness and insulation for cold areas; and balanced systems for mixed climates.

📌 What strategies optimize air, heat, and moisture flow in enclosures? Continuous exterior insulation, weather-resistant barriers, integrated flashing, and layered systems are essential.

📌 How can HVAC innovation balance air quality and comfort? Pair energy recovery ventilators with HEPA filters and demand-controlled systems for efficiency and tailored comfort.

📌 How can existing buildings achieve net-zero energy? Conduct energy audits, upgrade insulation and windows, integrate solar panels, and use smart tech to optimize energy.

Ci Live 2024 reminds us to keep pushing boundaries in building science. Let’s raise the bar!

The team at Construction Instruction are thrilled to congratulate Aaron Bailey, Director of Purchasing at Cambridge Homes, for his outstanding achievement in earning the Net Zero Builder Certification.

Since joining Cambridge Homes in December 2012, Aaron has been an integral part of the team, overseeing all Construction Service Departments—purchasing, estimating, and product development. His dedication to pushing the boundaries of energy efficiency and performance in homebuilding is truly inspiring. As Aaron puts it, “I have a strong passion for high-performance homes and enjoy the challenges of taking high-performance energy features, typically found in custom homebuilding, and implementing them on a production scale.”

Aaron's certification is the result of his commitment to continuous learning. Over the past year, he successfully completed four of our building science courses here at Construction Instruction. These courses include: Net Zero Energy Design Build Workshop, High Performance HVAC & IAQ, and Advanced Building Science.

We applaud Aaron for his hard work, passion, and leadership in shaping the future of the Building Industry! 👏🌍

Building Science Tip: How to Keep Your Home Comfortable During Holiday Gatherings 🎄🏡 Hosting a big group this holiday season? Large gatherings can raise indoor temperatures, affect air quality, and make your space feel less comfortable. The key to keeping things cozy and efficient is balancing airflow and temperature. Here are a few tips from the Construction Instruction team:

Smart Ventilation: With more people inside, proper ventilation is crucial. Use a high-performance ventilation system to remove excess humidity and maintain fresh air without losing heat.

Thermal Zoning: Close doors in unused rooms to focus heating in active spaces. Smart thermostats help manage temperature for different areas, ensuring everyone stays comfortable without overworking your system.

Seal and Insulate: Ensure windows and doors are well-sealed, and your insulation is top-notch. Keeping the heat in and cold out will make your guests feel warm and toasty without straining your energy use.
