Fixing Foursquare « The BrandBuilder Blog 02/28/2011

I think location-based marketing is going to be huge. And, while I'm on Foursquare from time to time, it's the specials and new experiences that I'm really after. The buzz feels like it's died down a little bit, though, and I still don't have a bunch of friends that use the service. Have they missed their mark? Here's an interesting article, with some good suggestions.

Fixing Foursquare « The BrandBuilder Blog I like Foursquare. I do. Big fan. And it seemed off to a great start, but I can’t help but notice that even with impressive growth, its sails aren’t quite as taut as they were a year ago. Checking-in to places isn’t as fun as it used to be. Chasing mayorships has become somewhat pointless. Not to m

Sweaty Armpits and Social Media Authenticity 02/24/2011

As we've learned in class, social media can be crucial to sales, PR, and networking. It provides constant, ongoing exposure to your brand, which means that transparency and authenticity are more important than they've ever been. After all, nothing runs smoothly ALL the time. That being said, here's an interesting article on authenticity from our Week 8 guest lecturer's website!

Sweaty Armpits and Social Media Authenticity Our natural reaction to sweaty armpits – or mistakes made in social media – is to cover it up. We fold our arms and act like nothing is happening. The more you try to hide it, the worse it gets.

Week 7-we're wrapping up Social Media Tactics on our target companies in class. AMTRAK is my target organization, and it's as if they've been listening. This week they launched their Youtube Channel, http://www.youtube.com/amtrak, and they're doing pretty much what I proposed last week-now it looks like I'll have to modify my tactical suggestion. It just proves that social media strategies are works in progress!

What Brands Can Learn From Taco Bell's Social Media Lawsuit Defense 02/17/2011

I'm fascinated by the PR aspect of social media. The Taco Bell "Beef suit" has been an interesting story, but the company's ability to weather the attack through strong social media management could be the big winner-and a blueprint for other companies to follow. Check out their strategy-it's quite involved.

Interestingly, I found a direct apology to angry Japanese Groupon customers by CEO Andrew Mason just two weeks ago. It seems to have a more authentic tone than his blog non-apology for the Super Bowl debacle!

Well, the Super Bowl is in the books, and life can finally return to normal. The big game is a marketing extravaganza, and many of us look forward to watching both football AND commercials. Is anyone else using location-based software or websites? What are your experiences with them, so far?
