He has performed with Lamont Opera Theater at the University of Denver since the beginning of 2022. Most recently, he performed the role of The Drunkard in the company’s production of Rachel Portman’s "The Little Prince" and as multiple roles for a Bel Canto Gala at Lamont. Anthony is also employed by the St. John's Episcopal Church of Denver, CO, as a tenor section leader for their Vicars Choir.
In addition to aforementioned roles, Anthony has held leading and chorus roles in several other opera productions including "L’enfant et les sortilèges", "Les mamelles de Tirésias", "The Pirates of Penzance", and several showcases and concerts throughout his professional career. He will be playing the role of Flute/Thisbe, as well as covering the role of Lysander in Benjamin Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" this spring. Anthony has also performed many musical theatre roles such as the barbershop tenor Jacey Squires in "The Music Man", as the Scarecrow in two separate productions of "The Wizard of Oz", and as Mordred in "Camelot". Wirtz has also played multiple roles in "Annie Get Your Gun", and has acted in several workshops involving musical theater. Anthony's concert work includes three consecutive years as a tenor soloist with Luther College’s productions of Handel’s "Messiah", the tenor solo for Lamont’s production of Dan Forrest’s "Requiem for the Living", and, most recently, the tenor soloist for "Messe di Gloria" by Puccini. Wirtz has performed many other concerts and recitals with a large range of art song in six languages. Anthony is a recent graduate from The Lamont School of Music where he received received his BM in vocal performance. Anthony studied vocal music with Professor Matthew Plenk. He also studied choral conducting with Dr. Catherine Sailer, which has renewed his passion for conducting. Previous to DU, he attended Luther College where he studied vocal and instrumental performance, as well as composition. While at Luther, he received the Weston Noble Scholarship, the top scholarship offered for music. Anthony was a Hornbeck Scholar at the University of Denver, which is reserved for the most outstanding in academic achievement, and he graduated in the top of his class as summa cm laude. He also won 3rd place for the central region of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition in 2005. Anthony looks forward to pursuing a double masters in vocal performance and choral conducting at Lamont in 2024.
